I sat in an Octavia VRS yesterday

What a fine machine - anybody driven one?  How would it compare with the fastest Superb in terms of grunt?

It's not as huge as the Superb which I would miss, but it looks tremendous, especially the red one I was in.  Not wild about those new double headlights though.

My brother in law has a pre-Facelift vRS 230.

While it isn't a sportscar by far, you can feel that it is a lot sportier than my Superb 280 (non-Sportline) is in the corners. The ride tends to be quite a bit harsher, and the normal throttle response seems to be akin to "S" in my Superb.

I doubt he'd be able to keep up on the straights, though ;-)

However, I'd take the Superb over the Octavia any day of the week. The extra room is very welcome with an 18 month old daughter, and a second baby on the way, and I personally like the styling better. In my opinion, the cabin is also a nicer place to be, but that's highly personal, of course.

Yeah I've got 3 kids and it would be a squeeze in the smaller cabin.

The space in the Superb is THE reason I got one.

Only comparable car I've seen for space is the Mercedes S Class.  And it cost 65k more :D.   Didn't even have a virtual pedal!

i've just come from a '15' plate Vrs Octavia 2.0tdi DSG184bhp.

My new car is a superb sportline 2.0tsi DSG 220bhp.

The superb is another level of quality over the octavia, it makes it feel like a rattly badly put together car, which it isnt, the Octavia is a nice car, its just not in the same league as the Superb.

Where the Octavia does win hands down was its handling, it was razor sharp and went where it was pointed, the Superb can't compete and is a bit vague at times, but by no means bad.

I love my new superb, its a lot nicer, quieter, smoother and heck more powerful than the octavia was.  I don't miss the harsh crashy ride of the octavia, even if i do miss its handling.

You've sold me!

Superb Sportline next for me  :)

My journey was from Octavia to Superb and there was basically only one reason for it: I wanted a grown up car.

I had the same decision to make.. I wanted the vrs for the sporty sound, pops and bangs.. but always thought the superb would be more practical with 3kids.. I drove both and the vrs was great and instantly put a smile on my face with the vrs button turned on.. but the superb is a different league. Keyless entry and start, no manual handbrake.. and just general feeling of being in a nicer place.. so I ordered the sportline estate..

Totally agree with this.

+1

My exact reasons too.

Had a mk2 Octavia RS, running Stg 2+, handling etc etc.

Since bought a "grown up" mature car that I can still give it the beans and put a big grin on my face every time.

+ another 1

I went from Octavia Mk 1 (1.8 turbo 4x4) to MkI Superb 2.5 TDi.

I think the 280ps and 4wd would put it at a slight disadvantage  :)

I have a Sportline 280 hatch and had a petrol VRS previously, ( before it was stolen). The Superb is very refined, but if someone offered to swap me an Octy VRS 245, I would do it in a heartbeat, as I personally found the VRS more fun, though it was significantly lower quality and slightly cosier for room inside.

That's just me though. ;)
