Thinking of changing to a Kodiaq

Featured Replies

Currently driving a Superb  170 4x4. It's a Mk2. Thinking of going for the 190 edition. Any wise words I should bear in mind?

What is it you're looking to find out? There are lots of great threads on here covering most subjects.

The Kodiaq will feel very familiar to you coming from a Superb, only with a higher ride height.

If you're set on an Edition and a diesel engine it sounds like you've already done some research...

Drive it first. Ive not driven the old superb, but if you're a keen driver you might be disappointed with the handling. On the other hand If you're after mainly quality and practicality youll probably love it :)

I'm just looking if there's any things to avoid or must haves really I guess.  It's seems a fairly comprehensive spec, but I'd add the towbar with trailer assist, heated windscreen (which I have on my Superb) and the drivers assistance pack since it's so cheap when you already specify the trailer assist.

Don't forget the spare wheel.

What seat configuration are you going for? If you're thinking of a 7-seater version of the 150PS diesel Edition and are going for a manual gearbox then Skoda won't let you add the factory fit towbar...

Thanks. No it's a 190 5 seat I'm looking at. Only available DSG too.

Main thing is you test drive it. You can read all the reviews in the world and take comments but those are just individuals opinions. We all see and look for different stuff. I found the edition spec was great for kit vs value. Personally I like the torque of the diesel and relaxed nature of the engine and DSG box. Go online to get discounts or at least to drive local dealer to discount. I love the heated steering wheel. I regret not speccing ACC. If you hang on until September (or whenever the next model year kicks in) you may get the digital dash. Not exactly necessary but looks cool.

I'm being quoted 20+ weeks for the 2.0TSi at the moment, so no need to "hang on" if you want petrol!

Double check the specs you want carefully with option prices.   There is a much wider choice nowadays with Edition, Scout and Sportline

No point in paying for lots of features you might never use, so check which has best blend of what you prefer

The only other thing is you are going for the 190 4x4 DSG remember that if you up-spec to £40,000 (list price) then road tax is higher for next 5 years

With a £37k car plus trailer assist and other options, you are going to have to watch the £40k limit unless you enjoy paying extra tax

gojoholo,   can they take an order today for the vehicle that will take 20 weeks to deliver, so in September or maybe later without telling you what the WLTP figures will be for MPG & Co2 g/km ?

WLTP hasn't come up. Conversation so far has been limited to short messages exchanged through carwow or email. I got quotes for a particular spec and I asked what the lead time was. One dealer said 20 weeks, the other said 22.

Worth asking, & in writing and getting an answer in writing, it is the elephant in the room,  in with the monkeys.

Not clear what the issue is. Are you saying that they can't actually take an order at the moment because of WLTP?

They can take an order while the books are open for a factory build, they or Skoda can not tell you exactly what you will get or when.

Maybe ask Skoda UK and see what they say.   What the petrol engines Co2 g/km will be for a car delivered in September.

http://skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us

I asked SUK as recently as last week and got a standard-not interested-can't be bothered to find out answer of the 1.4 is still available on the configurator and should you wish to order please contact your local dealer.

My company car is now up for renewal and I wanted a Kodiaq 1.5 (if the engine change is to be believed) but it seems Skoda haven't got a clue what to tell the market...

A number of models have waiting lists of 4-6 months.  Orders can generally be made.  (although for some models/engines orders are closed or suspended, Roughly when list is >7 months or if engine/model is planned to be stopped).

For most people the test results (when they become available) are irrelevant to the order, however for some on company schemes it can be a problem if they have NOx or CO2 limits etc.

Yeah, AVOID the diesel models.

The engines are fine, its what the Gov are doing to diesel drivers thats worrying.

Vehicle excise duty

Cost of diesel

added insurance costs once insurance companies jury on the bandwagon.......

Thanks for the input. It had to be diesel given the miles I do. It's on order, due sometime August ish. So some work to do including sourcing steel wheels for winter tyres, rubber mats and so on. Have gone for a 'bold' colour choice too. Velvet red. In your face I know, but have seen it in the flesh! Will be sorry to see the Superb go, it's been well superb, including towing the van today.

I also moved from a faithful 170 Superb estate to a Kodiaq.

Home sweet home, but more modern.

Ordered and delivered without any test drive.

The biggest pleasant surprise was the 21st century automatic hand brake. I Love It.

Just have to remember to turn it off when I park it up for a longer periods (sticky brake pads).

Personally I reckoned the Edition to be over-specced and over-priced.

I’m delighted with my SEL plus a few extras.

I would buy the new Superb again , much better value for money unless you 'need' 7 seats.

Superb has the same if not better rear leg room, probably the same boot floor space and in the L&K trim is cheaper than the Kodiaq after adding all the same extras.

The Kodiaq is essentially a jacked-up Superb.

Given the current trend towards the desire for increased ride height, SUV's are definitely flavour of the month at the moment.

I know what you mean but actually there's not that much difference in price, and there are a large number of features that aren't available on the current Superb.  Example, my current Mk2 Superb has heated screen which isn't available on the Mk3 (at least at present).

The heated windscreen is there on the current (MkIII) Superb...

Odd. I was looking specifically at the L&K estate and didn't see it. Heated washer jets were there....

And another question for anyone who tows a caravan with one with factory towbar and electrics. On the superb towing preparation there was now charging or fridge power. Can anyone tell me from experience if this is missing or present on Kodiaq? Data on SUKs website seems non-existent.
