GPS Columbus unit - signal?

Featured Replies

Hi,

The GPS on our Columbus unit no longer works as its cant find our current position.

Looking at the number of satellites it can track it shows 0/11 all the time :(

I'm on the impression at worst case this is just a fault antenna but not sure?

My car is in for a service next week, just booked it; and I mentioned this issue believing they could do a check at the same time as the service and advise on cost to fix.

Disappointingly they've advised me if I want them to look at this, it'll required an additional diagnose charge of the standard £90 to plug into a computer for the checks?!

They advised me if I'm sure its an antenna, they can quote for this and do this without the diagnose check; but obviously if it still doesn't work I'm still liable.

I've always been given a quote for diagnosing stuff under a normal service....any advice on this one?

Cheers,

Hung

Garage money maker, ask them if it is the antenna will it show a fault code for £90?
I don't think so.
Sounds to me the antenna is at fault.

had this on the Octavia blackline, usually a faulty  antenna on the back of the unit or the roof

Anyone know the costs of the antenna part; and what sort of labour costs n durations are we talking about?

I'm 90% sure it probably is....but that 10% ?

Having to pay £90 for a check is robbery....despite already doing a service.

if you warranty has expired just get a good auto electrician, when mine was done it was a new car and repaired in under an hour

Buy a £5 gps antenna off Ebay and fit it above the unit in the dash. Takes about 10 minutes and will 99% cure the fault. If it doesn't then your radio board will be fried usually.

Check the antenna and clean any connections you can before you get a new one. My radio stopped working in a previous Skoda and it just needed the antenna cleaning and reattaching.

Lost mine through a very powerful Car wash! Replace the roof antenna and all is fine :)

I had a similar issue to this.  Turned out the battery voltage was dipping low enough to reset the Columbus.  A new battery sorted it....
