KESSY Logic

Featured Replies

Just wondered if anyone has figured out the Kessy logic. By that I mean, when I unlock the drivers door using keyless entry it sometimes seems to then unlock other doors and sometimes they stay locked and I need to use the keyfob to unlock. I know there is a menu option from the centre consol but can't seem to figure out or get it to work consistently.

Are you using the same fob each time.

I've got mine set to only open the drivers door when I touch the handle.

Seems to work ok but I might change it to open the whole car instead.

If I want to open the back door I have to get the fob out and then unlock the whole car, bit annoying.

The central locking button on the dash doesnt seem to work without the ignition on.

As I mentioned sometimes I get the behaviour I want ie only driver for unlocks and then when i open the door the rest seem to unlock. But sometimes needing to get the fob out which is annoying.

It's not just you, I have been ploughing through the manual to see what the logic is as I have an identical issue... It wasn't any help

What I seem to see (with the setting to open all doors) is that...

A. If I open and close the driver door without opening any other doors, it's fine and works as intended

B. If I unlock with the driver's door and then open the back door to put my jacket in, at the end of the journey the from door no longer locks any doors and the fob is needed.

Can anyone add to the logic?

I was told that one pass with my hand behind the driver’s door handle opens one door, but two passes opens all doors. This works most of the time, but if you are a bit slow with the second pass it tends to be ignored. If I just pull the door handle, only one one door is unlocked. Similarly, If a passenger is slightly impatient and tries to open their door too soon it also cancels out the second pass. The two pass method usually also works on the passenger door, providing that the key is located on that side of the car at the time. I can also confuse the system if I accidentally put my fingers behind the door handle when trying to lock the car.

I quite like the Kessy system, but it seems to be a bit of a nuisance sometimes.  I keep my key in a pouch to block any emissions when not using the car, but have to remember to take it out when unlocking the car and not to put it back before I lock the car. I’ve been caught out several times already and wondered why the lock wasn’t working. I seem to remember I never had these problems when I used the remote access key on my previous car.

Final comment with what is working for me

1. Open _ two fingers on the back of the handle opens every time

2. One thumb on the front locks every time

Touching both sides at any point makes a conflict and a possible fail.

I know it is probably not a problem for previous VAG owners but coming from a Nissan has taken a bit of adapting

Here is what mine does:-

1] unlock - Touch the driver door handle, car unlocks just driver door, have to open all other doors from the center console button

2] lock - Touch the sensor and it locks, all doors can be hears to lock

Still cannot figure out the "how to check my car is locked part" as when I try the drivers door again it opens when I touch it so end up locking on the keyfob ... grrr

If you test that the door is locked within about 2 seconds, it doesn’t unlock. Or test with the back doors. Or see the mirrors have folded.

Yes exactly this, you have to be careful about the side of the handle you have contact with.

Another question to do with KESSY...if you press the button without holding the brake down in a DSG model does it start the car electronics without starting the engine?

Hi, many thanks I can confirm this works for me 90%+. Open drivers door and nothing else opens. Do one pass behind drivers door handle, then second pass whilst opening the drivers door and all doors open. This has got the behaviour I wanted.

Yes. That is just like turning the ignition on.

Yes, all the electronics comes on, as the does A/C blower, radio, electric windows, etc.  A single press of the button without holding the brake peddle down is effectively the same as turning the key one position on the old style key ignition.

To turn the ignition off simply press the button again and everything goes out ... if you open the drivers door without switching off the ignition a warning will go off to remind.

Getting the hang of KESSY now.

Thank-you nicknorman that makes sense ... If find that now I've got more used to KESSY I wait for the mirrors to fold and the little red LED on the drivers door to start flashing before I walk off.

Thanks dave_knight that’s most helpful. Looking forward to talking delivery of our Kodiaq (I know this is the Karoq section but it applies to both) this week and then I can fit the fake exhausts from milotec which I found out about on another post in this forum.

Another thing I have noticed, which I am sure would be in the manual if I read the section in detail:-

- One touch of the drivers door handle = unlocks that door only

- second grab of the drivers door handle = unlocks all other doors and the boot.

Found this feature by accident :)

Think of it as if you are using the key. 1 grab/sliding hand behind handle = one press of the key (drivers door only) 2 grabs/slides = double press of key (all locks)

Depends on the settings. Personally I prefer to have it set to unlock all the doors on the first touch, but then I don’t live in a carjacking area!

I've found it easiest having it set to open all, then to lock when driving off.
