Octavia owner's manuals – hidden secrets

Featured Replies

Anyone got any hidden gems from the TL;DR manuals. Like this one:

The "spare change cubby" in front of the gearstick is actually a "Phonebox" – on the baseplate there is an induction panel connected to the roof antenna which amplifies the phone signal strength by about 20%, reducing battery discharge when the phone is placed inside.

No, really ...

For the navigation system to function correctly, the card must be inserted in the SD2 slot ...

Outdated, the Samsung Note 8 doesn't fit on the baseplate of the phonebox

The phone box (with charging and signal boosting) is an option is it not? It’s just a plain old cubby otherwise.

Phonebox is an option, not all cars have it. As above though, it doesn’t fit many modern phones. A Plus sized iPhone doesn’t fit on the base plate either and a Galaxy S9+ doesn’t even fit in the box.

But it is written in the holy manual, my faith is shattered :crying:

My navigation works with no SD card in either slot :tongueout:

Actually so does mine. The sat nav usually sits in the passenger  seat

But does it have a "mute" option?

i did wonder what that was, just thought it was a place to stick your phone!

S8+ doesnt fit either, ive linked a accessory that allows wireless charging in the phonebox too.

I have the phone box in mine but it doesn't charge with the case on even though the case supports wireless charging  so a bit pointless really

Loosely connected with this topic, Can someone tell me where the microphone is for when you're on the phone hands-free?

Thanks

Iirc it is in the centre of the roof panel and its the little vent nearest to the driver.

Do you have the optional wireless charging on your phone box?

Mine works just fine.

Hi Petunet

I have MY18 VRS245 and wireless charging is supposed to be standard on that model here is AU but ive never had it working, will check again tonight without the case just to confirm

Nope, just had a look and no phone pic on the mat and no charge when my phone is out of the case, my'n is an early 245 in AU with a few odd options so i must not have the phone box

Since they put the mobile antennae in the rear quarterlight window on all Mk3 it is particularly disappointing that they did not make the connection  standard on all Australian supplied vehicles especially even as a safety feature for our big country.

How safe is inductive charging with other non-inductive designed electrical items?
