Massive lights failure

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum but I've been around here searching for information for some time now. A couple of weeks ago I inherited a 2013 Octavia MKII FL 1.6 tdi dsg7 with 230.000km. The car runs fine, mostly. It has some issues that I'm working on (with the help of other threads) but recently I had a new one come up and I haven't been able to find any info on it.

Around a week ago I left my girlfriend's house and noticed the blown bulb light on. The maxidot showed 15 burned bulbs! I stopped to check them and they were all off (the ones according to the display). It was late at night so I decided to just go home and figure it out the next day. On my way home the lights started functioning again, all of them. I thought it was some random glitch but yesterday it happened again at the beach. I went for groceries and when I got back to the car in the parking lot the same problem appeared but it did't go away. In fact, I had to drive 300km back home without any light on my front right headlight, and some other taillights either.

I have no idea what it could be, I didn't find any water or moisture in the engine fuseboxe and I am starting to believe its the BCM, but I'm not sure how it works or what it does exactly with the lights. Maybe some connector is going bad? or is rotting due to water?

Any help is really appreciated.

So I just found this video that shows the same problem I had:

The solution is in the engine fuse box. Fuse F16 is a green 30A fuse that was melted that caused the error. I replaced it and everything worked again. Weird though as it only affected some very particular bulbs.
