Power steering issue ?

Featured Replies

Just had it twice, once going to turn right from junction onto main road
Then as I got home coming to the final turn into house ( just managed to capture it quickly). Never had anything like before.

Very very loud, sounded like mooing.

Car is 51k ish miles, 2014
Power steering ?
Also how do I check levels please

There was a vRS230 on here that had very much the same thing a year back, might have been Goldfinger or something like that

Its intermittent, went out to car to check it again, nothing on side to side from steering.

It can't be the engine, I supposed it could be related to the clutch/gears but didn't seem to noticeable change on pulling away or anything..

Seemed like it may have changed when I got home at least with turning to pull in and then stopped but as per video eventually stopped after some steering input so I'm betting on that at the moment.

I get the impression the steering is fluid free as I haven't been able to see any mention about filling it from anywhere.

IIRC, it's electric power steering. Mk2 was hydraulic but VAG's moved to electric a few years ago.

Cheapness one feels

Probably related to fuel economy, a hydraulic system will probably consume more power and weigh more than an electric one.

Does it sound likely to be the steering ?

Anyone know anything about this system, is this new electric steering direction prone to failure and the intermittent droning noise through the car even when stationary ?

I'll have to keep an eye on position of the clutch pedal but I don't think it was affected by movement of the clutch etc.

Its very loud so not something you would forget. I'll have to do a few miles to see if it recurs, I did a quick blast today and nothing
