That's beyond my financial resources, as I would want to spec the optional blinker fluid upgrade. Although, the chip shortage might mean that current BMWs will not be available with blinkers again. It was ever thus.

Mind you, as we get a special pass to say we actually own the road, we don't really need blinkers.

Update: Blimey! I just read the time stamp on that Sniff Petrol Post! 16 years old. Well done for the research. I wonder if my next car (Lada Riva probably), will have blinkers?

Crikey, that's more than a bit forensic!!!   A couple of months ago my car was cased at 4 oclock in the morning, by a young scummer on a bike, riding up to my car and calling someone to disc

I've worked out where BMW have got their inspiration from, for the new M4 grill

So the reviews of the new 2 series are out today. Most of the ones I've seen so far are for the M240 X-Drive and they seem overwhelmingly positive. I do note that the car does have, once again, challenging looks and it's gone up in weight a bit, but Joe Achilles has got the car from 0-60 in around 3.7 seconds or so!!! Crazy. I wonder how fast the next M2 will be? Unfortunately, that car is probably still over a year away.

Anyhoo here are a couple of video reviews of it if anyone wants to discuss the car....PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY LINKS TO VIDEOS IF ALL YOU ARE GOING TO DO IS QUOTE THE SUBJECT LINE OF THE YOUTUBE VIDEO AND BUGGER OFF AGAIN. For my money the new M3 still holds my attention most :D

At least the grilles look to be of a better size IMO. The thought of the massive grilles remind me of this...

Indeed - that is probably the 'best' looking BMW at the moment (bearing in mind it's still not what I'd call elegant but is at least not as horrendously ugly as the rest of the range).

I guess the designers laid off the wacky baccy when they did the 2 series...

I never had a problem with the M3 grill and to be honest it's grown on me to the point I actually like it and would possibly choose it over the conventional grill. I'm not sure about the strange clash of panel angles just behind the back doors on the M3 and the rear is very "meh! But the Bonnet is interesting, taking that shape that some American cars use with graphics on their "hoods" and turning it instead to a depression that is a 3D shape. The M240s weird triangle shapes look slightly more awkward to me than anything on the M3/4 and the rear of it is even more "meh". But the size and performance are definitely a plus  :)

Unfortunately I'm in the process of selling my M4 and the M2 is still over a year away.

Hmmm... the back of the 2 series just looks blobby and a bit under-wheeled...

But  the new stuff like the iX, the 7, 8, X7 and 2 Active Tourer are just horrendous in my opinion.

The Chinese market has to have had an influence in many manufacturers designs. The Suzuki Cross went extremely Chinese in it's appearance and it's probably something we will have to get used to in general. I hate the front on many new Mercedes at the moment too and have a bigger problem with their grill designs than almost any other manufacturer. But there again, I detest the front of all Teslas, go figure :D

Yes - the new S-class isn't much of a looker either but I do find the Mercedes range more 'elegant' than BMW's current 'clash of angles / surfacing / grills' approach.

Either way you are right - the Chinese influence on aesthetics isn't what we have been used to and tends to be brash and jarring...

Blimey, the new car is a lot quicker than my old one! Regardless of sticky tyres, 4x4 and a big chunk more torque (more than offsets the cars increase in weight. I do love Steve Sutcliffe. Finest driver on YouTube imho :) he took Chris Harris under his wing to some degree when Harris first joined Autocar :) I'm going to ask Santa for one in Skyscraper grey, wish me luck :D

At least he wouldn't need a sleigh this time around...

I'd also be happy with  Cayman GTS, F Type V8 or a freshly washed reindeer

My old English Teacher once hit a reindeer in his morning commute and the police woman who came to attend to it told him "Well that'll be christmas cancelled then. Your students won't be able to look you in the eye." :D

Well it's a few months away, but I got offered a great deal (surprisingly, considering the current climate) on a

Spoiler

nice car ;)

I would have loved to see the new M2 but that's over a year away and I do like the M240. I did try and get a deal on a Jaguar F Type, but it's a struggle to get the price down enough for me and the wait for them is glacial too, but maybe it's worth it? Cayman was on the wish list (maybe it still is ? ), but the price was a bit too steep (Porsche quote car prices without the 'on the road' coasts, so if you look at a PCP then you need to add around £50 a month to offset this charge on a 4 year deal). Alpine looks great too. Of course the new RS3 has raised it's head (the saloon looks fab) and the evergreen A45 is something to covet, even if it has the leery spoiler on the roof. The GR Yaris is a proper little legend in the making....hmmmm? Oh and the Mustang!! Although if you want a Mach 1 you might have to wait a year, unless you get very lucky

But thanks to a faintly ridiculous amount of equity in the M4 I have a very decent deposit to put down on a new car, which is something I didn't think would happen again 20 months ago! I've also secured a very decent discount on a new car, so hopefully sometime around April (or earlier) I should have a ...... ;)

Have I gone silly or sensible (I am getting a bit old now)? Sporty or practical?  Stripped out or luxo barge? I have always liked cars like the Fiat Panda Cross and Jimny as you may have seen in my earlier posts around this forum
