Plus they smell great (2 strokes that is). I shot a load of pictures at a water park recently and they had some hovercraft racing going on. they sounded epic and as most of them were 2 strokes smelt fab. When I start my M4 up it stinks of unburnt fuel-in a good way. It's just a shame petrol doesn't seem to smell as nice as it used to when I was younger....or is that just because I sniffed too much glue ?? :D

Crikey, that's more than a bit forensic!!!   A couple of months ago my car was cased at 4 oclock in the morning, by a young scummer on a bike, riding up to my car and calling someone to disc

I've worked out where BMW have got their inspiration from, for the new M4 grill

Fezza has added this to his M4 garage.

What the depreciation like on a motor like this?

I was considering a change and I was thinking that I could get an M3 or possibly even an M5 (I needs the back doors) but the potential for depreciation makes me think twice.

I'd be better off getting a used Aston Rapide if the depreciation is as catastrophic on an M5 as it could be.

Are the M4 owners just accepting the hit?

Steep depreciation in the first 12-18 months, then it settles down. M5 depreciation is vertical. At the moment the M3 is doing slightly better than the M4 as it's not only more versatile, but also they stopped making it a short while ago. new one isn't really going to hit these shores for another year or so and even longer for the new M4. Grab one now before the rush :D Although buying an M3 just before winter is a brave choice. The car is pretty tricky in the wet, let alone in the wet and cold :) I got a pre-reg with 11 miles on the clock. Saved £21k after a bit of haggle :)

My neighbour has a 64 plate 420D Coupe from new and if it snows he can't get more than 50 metres from his home then gives up due to a total lack of traction so can't imagine how dreadful an M car would be in snow.;)

Quick search March 2016 M5 57,000 miles on sale for £29,500. March 2016 M4 Coupe 47,000 miles on sale for £29,000.

I'd have thought there might be lower mileage ones out there for that money. Have a look on M3cutters and see if any of them are selling. I'd steer clear of cars with modified suspension and Bootmod 3 flashed software though and there is a good chance that any M3/4 has been thrashed occasionally and/or tracked.  I've just done the former ;) and the car has stood up to it no problem. have a test drive and stick it in Sport+ engine, and medium gearbox, it should fly even as standard (most dynos report the car produces noticeably more than the quoted figures, even taking into account that many dynos are optimistic)

Actually been out testing the hydroplaning characteristics of the car on the motorways this last week. It's actually not too bad, but I have been driving like my 86 year old dad in his 12 year old Honda Jazz

Just realised you quoted an M5 in your first figure. I know a colleague who just got rid of his as he said the running cost were crippling and he's had M5s for the last 10 years or so.

It was for comparison to demonstrate how severe the M5 depreciation curve is against the M4 due to it being much more expensive new but a bargain at 3 years old.

So not like me in my Mum's Jazz CVT, where the throttle has 2 positions On and Off! :)

That car is nearly 4 years old 44,000 miles and trade offers between £25-26,000.

I'm guessing the traders are looking at the GFV and making a bid based on that. Offer the seller a little bit of equity and they might be happy. Certainly worth a shout by them.

He did put 'Edit:£42K' in his first post. Obviously has a great deal on the X5 lined up. His car must have been nearly £80k when new i would guess

Oh dear that's a very expensive second child perhaps he should have been less vain 18 months ago and have bought a more friendly motor.:tongueout:

I'd like to see the deal on the X5. It's top of the line so it probably has an enormous amount of discount on it if he takes the PCP.  He is obviously a man with more than a few quid lying around.

Yeah drug dealers have plenty of cash down the back of the sofa.;)
