FL estate back door gas struts

Featured Replies

Ever since picking up my 67 plate Octy estate I've noticed that when I leave the back door open for any length of time, it is very hard to close, it's like the gas struts are almost locked in the up position?

It's like this all the way to closed. In fact on a couple of occasions, I've had to re shut the door as it's not shut properly, has anyone else had this problem, or similar?

I appreciate that it's new but it is really stiff to close the door, I'm wondering about calling the dealer to see what they say, or Skoda UK?

Even on my 14 plate estate, when you leave the door open for a longer period of time the struts are noticeably stiffer to close, seems to be more noticeable when warm or it may be me. I’m thinking of swapping the struts out as they are markedly weaker than new ones.

Just hired a 18 plate estate and tailgate was much stiffer to close but again noticed the same behaviour when left open. May be normal behaviour.

Mine does this - 2016 vRS estate.

So does my 18 plate. Normally affected by heat making the struts stiff.

but I have to slam it quite hard every time to get it to close properly. I was putting it down to skodas fix to the cabin boom on the older models

Thanks for the replies, I can't say that I noticed this on my old octy estate, I'll just have to get used to it

I've never noticed a problem , but I don't tend to leave my  tailgate open for very long.

I noticed this during the week when camping in Cornwall. Found that progressively shutting the boot a little more each time freed them up. It's been fine since.

Yeah, my old 16 plate vRS estate boot used to do it but like others have said, only when left open such as when camping
