Skoda Octavia MK1 VRS Corrida Red

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, quick update.

Sorted a couple of problems I had with it when I bought it and got it back home.

Central locking not working properly, interior light not working when drivers door open, light on dash when door is open not working, alarm not working, puddle light not working and electric windows had a mind of their own . Now sorted put a new electric window switch in drivers door and new drivers door lock switch and I think everything is now working as it should. As I had the same problems on my mk4 Golf when I bought it I thought it would be the same problem and it was, quite a cheap fix in the end.

Have a rattle and resonating at the front when you pull off which has been identified as the downpipie to catalyst which is worn and rattling, it's not blowing or leaking so that's good but I imagine it'll give up eventually.

Been cleaning the car today and gave the spoiler bottom of hatch and bonnet a clay bar, polish and wax and they look a bit better just got to do the rest of the car now. Getting some leather feeder/cleaner for it and try and keep it nice. Drivers seat where leather meets material has come apart and needs stitching so will look in to that.

Bought a Pipercross dry panel air filter for it, will fit it when I've dropped the oil and changed the oil filter after another 500 miles or so. Car has a cat back Milltec on it so may be tempted with a mild tune.......

Went out for a proper drive in it last night just for the crack as I've not been far in it yet, did about 120 miles or so all over Derbyshire, got in at midnight it averaged 38 to the gallon and it drives fantastic so I may just leave suspension standard and just put wheels off my Golf on it, 18'' BBS LM reps should look quite nice when it all cleaned up.

Got new front mats, new proper original front mudflaps and a new aerial. will order new badges not sure which ones to go for, needs a bit of paint front bumper is looking a bit faded and tired and drivers door mirror has lots of lacquer missing. Might get the Leon Cupra R splitter as I think these look really nice on them seems to suit the car and look right in my opinion. So few bits to do yet to make it right and mine but loving it so far. Think it will make a nice car by the time I've finished it just needs a bit of love, time and money.

Got a plate for it too for when it's looking pukka and I'm happy I will put it on.

Pictures to follow. Happy days:)

Ciao for now chaps and chapasses.

Jules

Great looking car. My son has very similar in Elegance trim. Love both the Mk1 Fabia and Octavia.

Looking very nice indeed! Sounds like you're giving it the love and affection these cars deserve! :D I've been tempted to get a Leon splitter on mine too but I occasionally catch the bumper with a horrible scraping sound and that's at standard ride height! I wouldn't want to fit one and then proceed to tear it off!

Looking smart. I've got a Corrida red 05, been thinking along similar lines to you with a subtle splitter and maybe a sensible spring change/drop, but as said above, every time I catch the front bumper on a very slight slope I have a change of heart.

Personally I'd also stick with new O.E badges....the older style with the green in them look better on our age models and more "Skoda" than the new all chrome modern ones....embrace the old school look I say!

Thanks for comments,

Yes I am giving it the love it's definitely been lacking , it was last owned by a so called enthusiast that was that enthusiastic they didn't bother to fix the problems with the car or clean it properly so it wasn't covered in swirl marks on every panel.

It looks as if it's had a smart repair on the front bumper as when on Sunday I pressure washed it before cleaning it after snow foaming it first some of the paint came off!

My Nilfisk isn't that powerful on purpose as you really don't need them to be.

Going through the car slowly discovered last night it has a performance panel air filter in it already so took the Pipercross back today which was wrong anyway.

I had a MK4 Golf GTTDI PD130 for 6 years which is is for sale on fleabay if anyone knows anyone after a nice robust car they want to buy?

Owned several nice motors in the past including 4 mk2 Golfs 3 of them 16v's and sold about 3 years ago a Corrado VR6 which I'd had for 12 years.

I also had a mk1 Golf GTI 1600 in silver when I was 18 so caught the bug early on and that's why I have a soft spot for the VA Group stuff, not so much now as they are way to technical and built to break so I like the old stuff more the stuff you can fix and cherish because they have some soul!

Must say though overall my last car was fantastic and only selling due to wanting a bit bigger car as I go fishing and I don't need a diesel anymore due to a change of job with less travelling.

Can't put anymore pics up!......

Shame, what's the crack with the upload limit is it forever or per month?

I think the problem with the bumper catching is the front overhang from front wheels to front of bumper is much bigger/longer distance than say my old my old mk4 hence why they catch as it reaches the speed humps a good while before the front wheels in the pic of mine you can see it's quite a big difference at least a few inches, my golf is on AP coilovers and it does catch but it's actually probably 3 inches lower than how it was standard when I bought it.

I wouldn't dare run the VRS that low as the undertray is already not far off the ground and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a spring kit on it.

Rims might look nice on it though? they are more anthracite now than silver as I had them refurbed and put new tyres on so the colour might look quite nice against the red.

If not I will buy a new set as the ones on the golf are over 5 years old now and not mint anymore.

Decisions decisions........

I have Miltotec front corner splitters on mine, give the front end a decent look without looking too 'modified' - I think so anyway. Also, they catch the ground first, as to not damage the bumper!

Car looks really nice, I'm undecided on the black mirrors and front grill although I have been thinking about all of those and the rear spoiler in black I'm a bit old school and love the OEM plus thing normally just suspension and rims for me......

They were done before I bought the car, so are 'the norm' to me - I've never disliked the look!

Rear spoiler may look too much IMO also.

Any idea what suspension you're looking at? For information, mine is approx -20mm on Prosport coilovers (replacing with Bilsteins and H&R's sat in my garage soon).

My 54 plate is red as well, prefere the black grille surround myself.

Ive also used satin vinyl on the door frames to tie the windows in a bit more, they look a bit "stuck on" other wise

Nice example, good standard ones are getting hard to come by.

Best colour too, not that I'm biased :)

And a remap is well worth it

Not really sure I'll be changing the suspension after 5 years with a car with coilovers on my car feels like a magic carpet!

So don't think I really want to ruin it, cost of suspension that is worth having is very expensive compared to the actual cost paid for the car.

By the sounds of it just replacing stuff that is TT/R32/Leon Cupra R related seems to improve the VRS and then ARB's etc. But I never go to that extent I just like to add my touch to the car be it rims and suspension or fixing things and making things right again if broke or not OEM.

TLC a clay bar polish and wax or a good mopping seems to bring them back to life and then just keep it nice maybe a spare set of coil packs in the boot?!

Yes been thinking about a remap my dad's was Revo'd and 230bhp well rapid I'm just thinking a slight tweaking to 210.

I would keep it stock (wheels n all), fit a rear ARB, remap (had mine done 8 years ago by more-bhp in Crewe, still fine), decent rubber and enjoy it

What power is yours running? Golf now sold with the LM reps so freed up a bit of cash, not sure about rims now for octavia will have a think about it, guy test drove golf last night and I'd forgot just how planted that car feels with the set up it has.

Would love the octavia to be that low and planted but the ride quality soon gets on your nerves with the state of the roads everywhere and speed humps around Notts it's hard to drive anywhere without getting p=#@ed off with it.

Think it'll be replace rear brake discs and pads change next, paint calipers and the tinny thing behind the brakes or replace it and then waxoyl or similar the arches.

Will also waxoyl or similar the front arches then put me new mudflaps on, looks like someone has badly caught the car underneath at the front drivers side and it seems to have pulled the wing out at the bottom which in turn is not aligned with the sill, I'm going to a body shop to see if this is an easy fix hopefully loosen bolt underneath realign and tighten up but knowing my luck it can't be adjusted or corrected easily.

It was RR'd at 237 however I am sure that was an over-read, so probably 10% over or so - 210/215 perhaps?  It has been great since the remap and really does bring the car alive.

I see someone finally bought this, it was for sale for over 8 months if not longer. I nearly got it myself but I got a better deal with another one with more factory options. The person who owned it last also ran the dealership it was being sold at (the price he was selling it was stupid though).

Here are some previous videos of it;

I have all the old adverts, pictures etc if they're of any use to you. (I wasn't a previous owner, I was just looking at it for a while and was doing loads of research)

Great base and be interested in looking what you do to it over time!

Oh, these are the badges I got for mine. There was a guy a couple years back selling genuine ones for £15 but he's not selling them anymore so I found these ones, they came in german VAG packaging suprisingly.

There's at least 2 more red MK1 Octavia vRS in Suffolk not including mine that I see regually, so much that we flash and wave to each other haha. :D - So, I'll keep a look out for you when I'm around in the area.

Apart from the factory parking sensors and sunny roof what else did it have extras wise?

Mine is very poverty spec

Hi there,

Interestingly I won't go in to too many details but where I bought the car from the garage owner said it was his 15 year old son's car that was actually for sale this was a can of worms in itself. I thought the car was better than it is and more of a bargain than it was.

I still love the car but it is not without its faults and problems of which there is/were a few. Can I ask what put you off it? For a 14 year old car it's actually in very good condition with some paint damage etc but not bad enough to throw the towel in and sell on as a bad job. As I'm old school I wanted a sunroof and so searching for a nice good car with one proved very difficult although I was only looking for possibly just over a couple of months so it wasn't like I was searching far and wide for months and months. The garage owner told me he had been to shows and stuff in it but it had not been used since October last year I think the video was put on YouTube in 2017 by his son. Didn't know the car had been for sale all that time though I assumed it had only just come up for sale.

Cheers

Jules

The dealership, the price of the car and the fact it had been up for so long, even on eBay. I checked all the history and while it wasn’t bad, something in my head said don’t. And I’m glad I did as I found another one by pure chance.

  • Author

Would you have paid £2k for it or was I robbed?

Seeing as this car seems to have had so many owners I'm really surprised nobody has yet commented on once owning it.......

How many owners are we saying is many?

Isn’t the Golf much more solid and sound proofed than the Octavia?
