Superb vRS

Featured Replies

A Superb vRS would be very interesting indeed and might be my answer to another thread on here "what would you replace your Superb with", as long as they don't go overboard on the styling!

A Superb vRS would be nice, but no need to do anything to the style of the current Sportline trim, except add some of the lovely pepper-pot vRS alloys :) and obviously a nicely tuned version of the Golf-R engine :)

Definitely vRS its on the top of the cars to replace my Superb 280, however im not sure if i will go for it if there will be the same 4 pot engine with 20-30 bhp more.

Current Sportline have already sport seats, design, steering wheel, big brake discs, etc. Simply engine remap of 280bhp will increase power to 350-360 bhp and thats probably more then vRS will have as a stock engine.

Dont get me wrong, its fantastic car, but Skoda will have to give something more then 20bhp power increase on 2.0tsi engine and few details/bumpers to convince me to pay 10k more and go into finance again.

And there its a big chance that we will have R5 or V6 under the bonnet. Superb 1 was equipped with 2.8 V6, Superb 2 3.6 V6 so maybe S3 will got something better then 4 pots.

I’d say the chances of the Superb getting anything more than a 4pot are less than absolute zero.

Having just thrown my Sportline around for the first time I would suggest a vRS version would need a large amount of work on the suspension set up as well as having DCC as standard. The 2020 Golf R will be near on 400 bhp so 350 for a vRS isn’t out of the question. It won’t be easy for VAG to get the pricing for a vRS correct to make it the obvious choice in between a Sportline 280 and an Audi S4.

I just wonder whether they’d go for it in the UK. Think Skoda only shifts around 10k Superbs a year here (as a guide, the Octavia is more than double that), and there’s always the issue of Skdoa treading on VW’s toes (which VW’s management is hugely sensitive about).

The Sportline is effectively a badge-only vRS already. Would they really go the whole hog with the chassis and engine as well?

For my money, the Superb is already the best value Passat on the market. Doubt VW would allow them to steal even more glory.

Agree for the most part with this but the popularity of vRS Octavia leaves Skoda with an conundrum, what do vRS owners trade up to without leaving the brand with their growing families and budgets. Previously, a sporty Superb was not really an option (Styling wise imo), The SIII Sportline is certainly an option but maybe a little too soft of an upgrade for hardcore vRS owners, the styling of the SIII would certainly lend itself well to an RS model. As far as I understood what I have read, VW top brass do not directly have an issue with Skoda's success, Skoda are stealing sales from many brands, its more middle and lower management that feel Skoda have an unfair advantage using the same tech.

Tasty rendering and not over board imo, like to see it with the 240ps diesel, 268 hybrid and 300+ petrol, would make for a very interesting decision.

I’m not sure that many Octavia owners do trade up. When I switched from Octavia to Superb, the dealer told me most switching was from Octavia to Karoq, with a few looking at the Kodiaq. Impression I got was that they didn’t shift that many Superbs at all.

in order to keep vRS meaning something set apart  (like Cupra or GTI) instead of just another trim level (like Sportline) it would need to have an engine which was not available in all the other trim levels

I'm just annoyed that Skoda seem to be so keen on making vRS versions of the bigger cars, and not the smaller ones (like the Fabia, where there is actually a version involved in some sort of motorsport)

The head honcho has already stated that the Superb vRS is on hold for now.

Tony, any link with this information? Tbh for me choice is simply, if not superb vrs im going to arteon vr6. As this is the only sensible option.

As previously discussed in January, plans for a Superb vRS have been put on hold, according to Skoda’s Christian Strube.
