Battery Lid Cover MK2

Featured Replies

Hi

Is this the right battery lid cover for the MK2, I am getting my bonnet vented in the future so want to protect the battery terminals with an official looking lid.

Only the official LID 6R0915429 doesnt look like its going to fit my Exide battery, this was an RAC freebie job & it looks the wrong way round to how the the Lid is supposed to fit (terminals)

Any ideas?

Is that not just the same part as shown in your under bonnet picture, it is just lying upside down.  The only thing to get for the earth terminal is any standard even VW Group cover that fits into the 2 holes in that battery.

Other than that, I'd think that you'd be looking at turning the clock back as start buying the older style of (complete) battery cover, though I don't know if the battery now sits a bit higher or the bonnet line is lower than the MK1s.

Edit:- I'd say that that battery is the correct type and fitted the correct way round - based on what I've seen on similar Polo/Ibiza.

Looks correct to me... You can also purchase a small plastic cover for th earth terminal to tidy things just a little more. I had one a year or so ago but they are now available from Ebay...

This will cover the terminal so will order one but was hoping for lid or cover that would cover the whole thing

something like this maybe?

Think i will buy some bits & bobs then when its in for service next month see if they can tidy it up a bit.

Simply Clever

Move the battery to the boot as the VW Polo GTI Twincharger had.

Better balanced car with the rear weights removed.  More space in the engine compartment for a good Air Intake.

Careful not to overheat the battery though... Don't wanna leave terminals exposed as they may touch something metallic but don't wanna cover it too much to overheat it and cook it!  Wiring to the boot may be tricky so plan it properly.

Moving the battery  to the boot is covered in various thread on Briskoda, a very good source of information on Moding Skoda, Mk2 Fabia and vRS in Particular.

My spare wheel gets a tiny bit of water in every now & then, also subwoofer being fitted in boot shortly, think i will leave battery where it is! thanks guys

That H2o in the spare wheel well will likely be your rear flaps.  Oo er missus.

Mines is vented, passenger side vent sometimes leaves a little water around/near the battery, Hasn't been an issue for me yet but I've been looking into a similar battery cover of some sort.

I even contemplated trying to fabricate my own.

thought your vents was on a blue octavia, dont see many fabia VRS MK2 estates. Mine are getting done by Nick Wiley september at Manchester Meet. Spraying them myself then sending for meshing.

As for the battery looking just for a lid that will slot over (push fit). doesnt seem to exist.....

Was looking at these thermal bag things which would be good in Winter (for my short journeys) but Summer may be unsuitable on longer journeys (high battery HEAT)

I looked at these after you posted it... It sounds like they are saying good to help keep warm in winter, preventing flat batteries and making start-up easier but ALSO insulating battery from engine heat in summer, too. So the actual battery MIGHT just run cooler in hot weather due to keeping out the radiated heat of the cars engine, prolonging the battery life. Sounds a little too good but if its true, may be worth the currency to fit one! The only issue is being able to fit the gubbins on top of the battery, fuses etc and also bolting down the battery. I guess you could make a small, neat hole in the base for this, where the clamp fits.

Think it's best option so far, service is getting done at tuning shop August so they can do it for me, they probably have good idea how to do it, I have seen race style ones advertised for wet dirt rally days etc...

Yeah nick done mine too, were you asking nick on Facebook about painting them etc ? I think I commented ?

This is the UK,   -15 sometimes and 30*oC occasionally with behind the battery area of a twincharger occasionally in the high 40's.   Cold batteries are hardly an issue really.   Nor overheating ones.

yes that was me are these the same vents you got?

Also have you noticed a decrease in oil temps with the vents in 'hot weather' on a hot day.

ie i get up to 100 degrees at lunch when ive things to do in a rush on a 20 degree day,

Lots of fast stop starts then dual carriageways junctions 0-60 then 60-80mph motorway

good to know think im gonna order that german bag. Has to be good quality the germans made it....

Have you ever considered getting the early version which was, certainly in the case of VW Polos, a full cover, getting an intact one from a scrappy should be very cheap and if it is not workable then less lost money wise, a 2002 Polo and probably slightly newer should have the full cover assembly, and they should be heading for their "care home" in large numbers now?

  • 3 weeks later...

Just spotted a brand called Durite that make battery boxes. Designed for marine, atv, motorhome etc but as they make varying sizes, one might be suitable. Might need a small amount of customising to get the leads in/out and to fit the clamp but they look good quality.

This finally arrived for my exide battery, i went for smallest size as my RAC exide battery was smaller than the stock one (22 x 18 x 20cm)

Will be fitting at next service end of August
