Manufactures plate

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the location of the manufactures plate?

Need to deface it before the next mot smoke test

Smoke limit hasn't changed for your car AFAIK, and the new 'no visible smoke allowed' rule only applies to DPF equipped cars.

Besides defacing it will do nothing as the tester will still know what emissions standard it has to comply with.

it wont have to comply to a specific emissions standard, its either the old system where a smoke limit applies, or for newer cars with DPF then the 'no visible smoke' test applies

On my last mot it had an emissions test with limits (this is my first diesel and only put it through one mot). Is that normal?

Yes. A smoke test

Without the plate the smoke value can be higher and pass 3.0 I believe.

If there's a plate with smoke value on it it has to that or lower.

For example my Mondeo plate say 1.46

You can believe whatever you like but it doesn't make it true.

Does your car have a bad remap and smokes like a chimney?

"For vehicles first used before 1 July 2008, the limit will be one of the following:

  • the level specified on the manufacturer's plate
  • 2.5m-1 for a non-turbocharged engine – if it's not stated on the manufacturer's plate
  • 3.0m-1 for a turbocharged engine – if it's not stated on the manufacturer's plate"

That's from the mot guide book

No it doesn't smoke like a chimney. But I'd like to know the number on the plate

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but this is on the nearside inner wing, just behind the headlight, probably a battery in the way of seeing it easily on yours:

The local council testers are applying the plate value to all diesels, irrespective of age, or the presence of DPF.  If you look on gov.uk, you will find contradictory information (or they are incredibly poorly copy-written) - the overview of changes states that it applies only to DPF-equipped vehicles, but the full tester's guide makes no such distinction.

For reference, the limit for an ATD is 0.6 - 5 times lower than the 3.0 limit last year, and actually less than the 0.7 "default" for EURO VI vehicles...

For the sake of reference, the MOT tester will read it off their computer system.
