Featured Replies

Any suggestion as to what is causing my 64 plate DSG Octavia 2.lt  diesel estate to overheat its fsh 38k miles, and would the used car warranty cover the repair as I only bought the car 2 months ago from Skoda main dealer

Known issue with the thermostat mate, it sticks. New part been revised. Take it back and they’ll do it under warrantee

There is a know issue with the electroncially controller water-pump where the sleeve sticks closed causing the engine to overheat temporarily before returning quickly to normal.

There is a new part design to correc the issue & as its under warrenty you should insist that they change the timing belt driving the water-pump at the same time.

Hi there, i have a similar problem with my skoda octavia 2.0 64 plate, it has a lot more miles on the clock but they are all motorway miles...... it has done 116k and seems to run smooth to me but im no expert. i only bought the car 4 days ago and i got a "check coolant"  warning on the dash. i pulled up only to find that the expansion tank was over full (i had to take out 240ml) from the tank to get it to the max line! (which has taken the coolant warning off)  now,  i dont think i was noticing this enitially due to not having a decent run in the car ( and being a little exited) but since then the temp guage is rising (almost into the red) on 3-4 seperate occasions then it is dropping back down to 90 (normal) and "seems" to stay there! but its very worrying for me as a dare'nt drive the car. ive had the car for 4 days and ive drove it for about 1hr 30mins  as im terrified il do more damage than good. ive been in touch with the dealer i purchased it from and they have advised that they will repair or fix any problem, (dont know when or how long Etc because the customer service is appauling) but....... to be totally honest, if thier mechanic cant fill the expansion tank (coolant) to the correct level then do i really want him trying to repair any bigger problems there might be with the car? i am covered for 3 years with the warranty i took out on the car but dont know if skoda would entertain/repair anything under this warranty and dont know if the garage would even let it go to skoda. i really need some help/advice on this one please guys as im in a real pickle. also i tried to ask for my £££ back and they basically said that " it doesnt work like that and that thier mechanic has to try repair it"

Thanks in advance and sorry for the novel. i am a total noob to this so appologies in advance. cheers, scott.

I guess as its 2nd hand & out of the original manufacturers warrenty you have to take it back to the garage that gives you the 1-year warrenty afte buying it & give them a chance to fix it.

I would suspect you have the common water pump problem & the coolant level was caused perhaps by an air blockage in the system rather than the service guy overfilling it.

Hopefully it is something simple which will restore your faith in Skoda & the dealer you used..

For info, if they do change the water pump I would request that they also change the timing belt at the same time as an act of "good faith" perhaps.

Its easy to do at the same time (so doesnt really cost them much extra effort) and will save you a lot having to have it changed again at a later date.

Thankyou very much for your response gabbo, and  yes the car is 2nd hand, it had one owner from new. took the car back to the dealership (not skoda but an independant dealer) they have advised that they will replace the water pump and timing belt FOC. Well at least i hope its free of charge as no prices have been mentioned, just hope it doest create any knock on effects and/or problems.i have been given a courtesy car of the same age too so i cant complain.......yet. I have also marked the old timing belt with a white paint pen to ensure i know the belt has been replaced as you never know with these shady dealers ( id advise you should always try to do this to ensure full customer satisfaction) thanks again gabbo. much appreciated and i will keep you posted.
