Reserved new Octy vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm an old timer to these forums as used to be on here in my Fabia vRS MKI days but then went through a number of cars since and have managed to find my way back. I'm currently in an 06 Octy vRS which I bought 2 years ago for £2k with 140k or so miles while I was buying a house but have missed the new car feeling since giving up my Merc A class. I decided to look into buying an Octy last month as feel the time is right and my dealer has managed to source from Skoda UK a race blue petrol DSG with winter pack (heated windscreen and seats) for me which they've just had delivered. I popped in on my lunch as they're round the corner from work to talk about figures and just wanted to see what peoples thoughts are on whether I'm getting as good a deal as they say.

I've calculated the OTR price to be £28,070 including RFL and they've offered it to me for £21,447 which includes the £3,000 deposit contribution, £1,000 test drive and buy voucher and 10% off the ex VAT price. They're also giving me £1,162.50 for my car as part ex which I know is probably lower than I'd get privately but the car is in average at best condition so I think it's quite good seeing as their first valuation was £760.

Is this good enough not to wait for the MY19 updates due out September that I've been reading about? I doubt they'd offer these types of discounts on the new one would they? I'm in no rush to buy a car but thought I'd try and take advantage of discounts that could be available while they're getting rid of cars from stock while they prepare for MY19. The only thing I'm a little gutted about is that 245 will be standard going forward so missing out on that and the black pack as standard which I like.

Input welcome as I'll be taking the better half for a test drive tomorrow and to possibly sign on the dotted line for a Friday collection :)

Thanks

Alex

Regarding your part ex I'd say use Webuyanycar or Evans Halshaw valuations as a rough guide to what you'd get for yours.

On the face of it, doesn't seem like a terrible deal on a new one. Particularly at a time when it's difficult to order one. Just watch the interest rate isn't stupid as is often the case with dealer offered finance.

Race blue with DSG and winter pack is a great choice!

Try here and see if you get any offers.

Thanks @ahenners I've just taken a look and WBAC is £935 while Evans is £1,040 so seems I'm getting a good deal.

Yeah they've been keeping a look out for one for me since I went in and called me just over a week ago saying this car was at the port and available if I want it. I wasn't actually expecting them to get it into stock but turned up and there it was in all its glory. Only annoying thing is my dad has a Fabia in race blue and I really wish they kept it as a vRS special colour. Oh well we can just match. It is a lovely car and I only really want to get a reversing camera fitted for it and I'll be happy as Larry as have it on my partner's Tiguan and it's so useful.

Thanks @Offski will take a look in a bit.

I take it you've just wbac? I was a bit disappointed when I sold my car through them. The bloke was marking my car down for anything and everything, but he did take a couple of them off when he saw I was about to crown him.

Tried to make out there was an indentation in the c pillar (which was news to me) and tried to make out a trolley ding was worse than it was.

I was a bit between a rock and a hard place as the dealer wasn't offering anywhere near what the car was worth and I couldn't attempt to sell it privately as I was working away a lot in the months leading up to picking the new car up.

I've only ever traded in or sold privately. I use WBAC for the purpose described in my post - as a rough, realistic trade price valuation as as leverage with dealer trade in valuations. I've heard they knock down on all sorts of stuff and it doesn't surprise me.

If you're up said creek and need the dosh quick, then it's great. If you can arrange it privately or if the PX is acceptable, then I'd sooner go down either of those avenues.

We buy any car offered me £250 for my old 252K 54 plate Quattro, on a part X I got £1k for it.

More recently ive heard of people getting evaluations but on the day its not worth he same amount.

Who knows if the deposit contribution etc will be same on MY19... I doubt it will be. Also the GPF carries some risk if you wait.

On the other side of the coin the MY19 standard petrol VRS is effectively the MY18 245.....so more powerful & better spec. But almost certainly more expensive?

Does the MY19 spec get VAQ diff?

My assumption would be that it's not and it's reserved for a future "special" edition as per the pFL 230 and FL 245.

So it does  Some nice changes for MY19, just looked through that internal Comms doc now!

WBAC? I'd rather naw my own arm off than give it away to them.

If you do private sale and put up with the usual timewasters, you will get more money for car. I believe that is better option. Example?

Sold wifes BMW 318D few months back for £1350. WBAC price which was used as a "minimum", £850. It's a no brainer....

On track with thread - good choice! Love my 2018 VRS diesel hatch:biggrin:

OP could try www.tootle.co.uk. for maybe a better deal than px. It worked for me when changing from my Mk2

Thanks all, I took my missus to the dealer an hour ago and let her be the first to drive the car and she loved it as much as I did so we ended up buying it

I was actually quite surprised (even after reading the brochure) that it doesn't come with front parking sensors as standard but apparently that's on all models so have to suck it up despite my poor forward parking ability. I'll definitely be getting the reversing camera retro-fitted as got so used to it on our Tiguan. Is there anywhere cheaper to get it done other than at the dealer? I'm not good at DIY so will need someone to fit.

I just went with the PX on my car as meant I can pick the new one up tomorrow and happy enough with the value seeing as it's got such high mileage and been used as our tip run car while doing the house up so not all that tidy.

I've included the one pic I got of it. It hasn't been cleaned yet since coming from the port so a bit dusty.

Seems like a good deal to me. Sometimes waiting and not being too fussed about colour or spec can pay dividends if price is the key motivation.

Both my VRS and the wife's Karoq have both reversing cameras and front/rear parking sensors and are very useful and worthwhile features if someone is thinking of ordering them on a new car.

Did you buy the Race Blue VRS230 then, we need to know!

Haha no worries, I did end up buying it as the missus loved it! New and old attached.

I'm loving it but the retail manager told me the mirrors auto fold when locked but I think she lied as they don't seem to. Guessing this is an option that she thought the car had. The best thing is that the insurance was only around £29 extra for the remaining 7 months.

Also can you just overwrite the maps on the SD card with the updated maps I've just downloaded from the Skoda update site?

Looks lovely in Race Blue shame about the folding mirrors both of our cars have them very handy at the supermarket lottery car park. Hopefully someone will give you the answer to the SD card question as I am no TECHY as my phone is 7 year old I Phone 4!:D

Looks like you got a decent deal there to me.

As a 90% certain new vRS buyer, but one who for who,for various reasons, cannot buy until next year I'm a bit worried that at that time the deals won't be there.

As stated above there is effectively a £4k contribution plus dealer discount, and I'll definitely be a buyer next year on these sort of terms, but if these disappear with the "new" (but little different) model I'll be looking elsewhere rather than paying £30k or thereabouts.

There'll always be deals to be had, I started using car wow and then went in with what my best deal was so knew they could go lower after first quoting me just shy of £25k with their contributions. Just be prepared to hold your own as other dealers a bit further afield will want your business if your local doesn't.
