Air con compressor

The air con on The fabia vrs hasn't worked for a few years. .I was thinking of changing the compressor. Is it a big job?

Mines not worked for years either. What’s made you want to change the compressor first?!

Just try getting it gassed up first. They should check to see if it holds pressure, i think it cost me £35 from an independent garage.

 

Didnt work before, regassed and ice cold again.

 

I think it throws a fault with G65 sensor if not enough gas so aircon compressor doesnt kick in.

Compressor on the Fabia is permanently engaged so it spins all the time, if it seizes there is a breakaway fitted between the pulley and the compressor so that the auxiliary belt doesn't snap, if this has not broken then you don't need a new compressor.

Get the system tested for leaks first.

Check the solenoid wiring too. Brown connector pair on same bracket as the (infamous) alternator connections. Just as likely to break as the alt wires, maybe?

I’ve considered the evap temp sensor(?) but that looked like an afternoons work for my mahoosive hands. If it’s not either of the above, I’ll have to stick her in at a local specialist.

As others about the regas, with the note that this is one time to go someplace like Kwik-Krap that advertises "works better or no charge".

I've tried using a scanner to check for codes and didn't get any.tried getting halfords to top up the gas but they couldnt get any in. I've looked at the compressor with the air con on and the centre bit isn't spinning

As for scanning for codes, a normal code scanner never picked anything up for me, but when scanned using VCDS is brought up the 00819 error.

 

Could be a faulty G65 pressure sensor, think theres some on ebay new for quite cheap however im not sure if there is a shrader valve once you remove to stop loss of coolant (and whether you need to wear gloves or not).

If the centre bit of the pulley isn't turning it's definitely time for new compressor. Can't see it being particularly tricky, but never tried.

I've unbolted mine to install a new aux belt tensioner 

 

Fairly straight forward if I remember correctly

 

You may also need to remove the rad fan for access too

Check that they will be replacing the receiver/drier. Happy to be corrected but I'm pretty sure it's recommended that this is replaced when you change the compressor.
