Temperature gauge

Featured Replies

Temperature gauge gets to 85 and then stays there as opposed to the usual 90 on my previous cars.  Changed thermostat and coolant temperature sensor, but to no avail.  Anybody know what else it could be?

Thanks

Paul

Manual or DSG? Known issue with oil cooler stat on DSG models.

Yeah my replacement DSG thermostat arrived today so now I have to find time to fit it (and some G13 coolant too).

I have the same problem.  When rolling down out of the hills in winter it can cool off back to 50 degrees sometimes.

Part is: 1K0 121 113 A

Sorry, I should have said, it's a manual

Then I have no idea. As you may have worked out the DSG cars have a common thermo/temp issue.

There's quite a wide range where the temperature points at 90'C, I think it's something like between 75'C and 105'C but happy to be corrected.

If I were you, I'd get VCDS connected to check what the car thinks the coolant temperature is and also to check the needle is correctly centres on the dial :)

Temperature via VCDS was 88.2

That's close enough that it should display 90.

Did you try an output test on the temp guage from the cluster? It should point at min, max and 90 if I remember correctly.

I finally got around to fitting mine, these pictures might help someone else who has to do it.  The car now gets up to 85-88 whereas before it wouldn't really get above 70 unless working hard.

Easy job:

- Didn't need to drain coolant, just clamped the hoses instead

- Remove battery

- Remove air box (disconnect MAF lead, disconnect vacuum hose, disconnect flexi tube to MAF)

-- Remove bottom air hose (from bottom of air box to the swirl chamber thingy (cold air intake).

--- This one was a PITA, I ended up removing the whole swirl chamber while still attached to the bottom air hose and the air box, then disassembling outside the car as the bottom air hose clips were quite strong

- Removed battery tray (not totally necessary but makes it a bit easier)

- Clamped water supply line (2nd picture, yellow thingo)

- Removed pipes from DSG cooler

- Lost maybe 100mL of coolant

- Remove thermostat and replace

- reassemble everything

- Idle up and see if it leaks

- Go for a drive, see if it leaks

- Carry around spare coolant all week just in case

I have a 2011 Superb 2.0 CR 140hp and recently I drove it on the highway in 5th gear around 100-140kph for 30 or more kilometers and the coolant temp didn't reach 90. Outside temp was about 6 C.

When I normaly drive it it reaches sometimes 90 but drops after and always oscilates.

It's a manual transmission.

Probably failed thermostat. Did you check the oil temperature on the MFD?

I don't have the mfd but the car seem normal in all aspects but I will chech the thermostat and coolant temp sensor.
