Leather v Cloth seats

Featured Replies

I suppose that you cannot have everything but I just went for a 20 mile drive and the back of my shirt was soaked with sweat after sitting on the black leather seats. Are the brown or beige leather seats any better and how about alcantara and cloth?

I've got alcantara. It doesn't retain the heat like leather. Never had that problem.

Maybe you need a cover of some sort? Or, one of those beaded things that keeps a little air between you and the seat back? Something you could take off and put in the boot when the weather cools again.

This was the reason I chose the ventilated seats... lovely. :blush

Best seat material out there (and even a bit further) is Alcantara. It is more durable than leather and no sweating like a pig on a warm day.

Skoda must start offering Alcantara for L&K!!!!

cloth for me in my adventure, 4 years old no signs of wear after nearly 50k and never sweaty!

I regret buying black leather, at the time of ordering however it was the only option on the SEL.

Absolutely. First time for me and would never be without again. I spend 3/5 hours one way trip normally and always fresh when I get out.

This is my first car with 'Leather' .... I did worry but have to say I've not had a sweaty back even when getting into a car that's been sat in 30' all day.

Guess it's just one of those things that will cause some a problem like the comfort of the seats.

Sweaty back with air con on........?????????

That and the heat they get to when in the sun is why I'll never buy a car with leather - regardless of colour...

No issues with black leather here. The ‘pleather’ in i.e. a new E-class is another story though.

Black leather in my SE-L - bloody awful in the sun. By habit now I open all the windows on the remote as I unlock it, just to get some of the air out before I drive it!

My last car was even worse though, black leather interior but with a panoramic glass roof. All aboard the nope train!

I bought an Sel when alcantara was still an option.

I had the opportunity of trying out leather and alcantara back to back (so to speak) on a warm summer day.

Alcantara was light and day better than leather.

In brief, no burning in summer, no freezing in winter.  Far less slippery to sit on, therefore far more comfortable when driving.

We have owned a VW Bora, now 16 years old, with a leather/alcantara option.  The alcantara is as good as new.

IMHO Skoda have made a big mistake deleting the alcantara option, although there is always the Sportline, at extra expense of course.

Should I ever buy another Skoda it would be a Sportline with current specifications prevailing.

We experience hot weather in our summer (Adelaide South Australia) and I much prefer fabric to leather seats simply because they breathe better, especially if I am wearing shorts.

It is not so much the heat even when over 40 deg but if the sun is allowed to shine direct onto a seat.

Quality 3rd party window tints help block some of the rays but the most simple and cheap partial solution are those cheap folding silver reflectors in the front window when parked.

Fun fact: I have a white car and if it is left in direct sunlight the white paint is cooler than the tinted windows which shows how much energy the tint absorb.

Its funny how it bothers some and not others. I would happily have exatly the same again without a seconds thought. I guess some people are more sensitive to heat ;-)

It's a northern thing ;)

Agree with the above on the ventilated seats.  It is a must if you're going for leather.  I've had two other Superbs with non-ventilated leather seats (and they were beige) and it was torture on a hot day after a few hours on the motorway.  I do think Alcantara is a good option although in beige it might pick up stains a bit more.
