Have Skoda stopped providing Amundsen SatNav Updates?

Featured Replies

I have 2014 Octavia with a  Amundsen SatNav. I do every 6 months or so, I wen to the update portal. http://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

When I put my VIN into to the portal it told be "There were no maps for the VIN".  In the past it has always shown what was available, even if it has not changed since the last time I checked.  This suggests to me that they are no longer providing updates for my 4 year old Octavia.  is this correct?

I get the same message this week with my 2015 Octavia with Amundsen.

But it also says there are no DAB logos available, so I suspect yet another bodged website update.

Hi,

No, I don't think so.  The update portal seems to be having one of its moments when it says there are no updates.

Went into my local dealer yesterday and he was puzzled too - tried my VIN and VINs for three other vehicles and got same result each time "No updates for VIN".  Suggested I contact Skoda Customer Service on 0330 037 504, however soeone on this site says you get a quicker response (to getting the site fixed) is you post to Skoda's UK Facebook page.

EDIT: PM'd Skoda UK and within minutes got a message saying they will look into it :)

I’m sure I’d read on here you only got a finite number of updates?

Hi Sc03ott,

You used to get 3, now they have removed that restriction AFAIK.

Forget the update portal, check this thread for the latest ECE2018/19 map links :)

Thank you Sasha for this.  I've downloaded the update and will install it over the wekend.

Thanks to everyone who has responded.  Will be interesting to see if Skoda fix the update site...

I wouldn't hold your breath. As @SashaGrace mentions forget the portal. My last 3 map updates have been from links on here rather than from the Skoda Portal. Latest maps are available much sooner.

I must check Sasha's link for my system, it's not been done in a while.

Links on here are my only way to updates as my car wasn’t built with nav so the official update portal is useless to me. It’s such a dodgy looking site as well :D ECE2018/19 is working well on my MIB2 Amundsen and it doesn’t have half of the silly route planning that took you down side streets then back to the same road you were on that ECE2018 had. Just   remember if you are using an Amundsen that you must use the Skoda nav card. A normal SD card won’t work :)

Hi All, I have successfully updated the SatNav on my Octavia.  Thank you to everyone

Next questions

1.      When should I start looking out for the next update?

2.      Does the same site provide updates for the Skoda Citigo/VW UP! ?

Hi Mr K,

AFAIK the next update is due August 2018 - so imminently

The update portal seems to have been fixed as it now shows there are maps available for my VIN, but it's still showing the "old" 2018 maps not the new 2018/2019 maps.

I believe the new maps won't be available until August

They're already available if you use the direct download links posted in this forum - I updated to the 2018/2019 maps over a week ago

Yeah, that's right - but some will wait for the "official" download :)

Oops, just spotted that the download page says the new maps will be available in November, that's only 6 months later that they originally stated!!

Same here too.

To give them their due, Skoda CS have been looking into this all weekend on my behalf and PM's me on FB about 20 mins ago to say the portal was fixed.

Originally, they said there were no updates available for my VIN and I queried this as the maps on my SD Card were put on towards the end of 2015.

Anyhow, thanks to the good folks on this forum, I have already installed the 2018/19 maps (due on the portal I believe in November !)

Why? The links posted here are to the OFFICIAL download, you just don't have to wait for Skoda to sort out the update portal - which they get wrong every year :wall:

What gets me is that many companies now insist that people use social media.

I'm sorry but this policy is simply unacceptable, I don't want any social media account of any kind, whether it be Faecesbook (I have spelt it correctly) or Tw4tter (Spelt correctly) or any of the others. It's rubbish and it's a very dangerous place for most employees, who may inadvertently post something on there about the company that they work for and it accidentally goes public, rather than being kept private.

I know of several cases where people have been sacked for accidentally putting less than complimentary stuff about companies, without adjusting their privacy settings, management cop hold of it and here's your letter of dismissal...

It also makes you potential Jeremy Kyle fodder.

I totally agree with you there.  However, I have my privacy settings on FB locked down (insofar as I can) and I'm retired (so no worries from my employer) and in this instance, it produced a resolution quite quickly.

Agreed, but not everybody has the facilities to unzip the file and then the understanding to correctly load the files onto an SD card.

The portal site includes a download manager that takes care of all the processes which makes life a lot easier for many users.

If you've got a PC or Mac and know how to use it (unzip programs are free to download or even included in many systems) and can follow the install instructions on the portal then that seems a pretty lame reason to me - especially as Skoda are so rubbish at keeping the update portal updated and accurate!

The key phrase is "If you've got a PC or Mac and know how to use it".

There are many people out there that have a pc or mac but don't really understand some of the basics that some of us take for granted and might find the download/unzip/copy process a little difficult.

Of course, there are many Skoda owners that know nothing of Briskoda and may not realise that the reason that the portal is now running may be down to Briskoda members.

"Little difficult" isn't the same thing as impossible, and even as a "silver surfer" I learn how to do more with modern technology every day - as they say "You're never to old to learn" and "You learn something new every day".

However, I do agree that Skoda really should keep the update portal accurate and up-to-date, and relying on owners to tell them they've messed it up (again!) certainly isn't "Simply Clever"
