Using the sensors when getting the car through a narrow gap

Featured Replies

The side sensors emit a continuous sound and the screen shows a red line either side of the image of the car when I manoeuvre through a narrow gap . What I am saying is they are no help at all in this most difficult of manoeuvring situations .I am forced to risk just using my judgment or asking a third party to direct me.

There needs to be a “ very slow manoevering “ setting to allow an unaccompanied driver to squeeze safely through these gaps   .

This deficiency in the parking sensors is causing me major headaches!

This is my biggest problem with my car. The side sensors are far too sensitive. There should be a setting in the infotainment that allows you to set the distance at which they trigger.

I have to agree, the superb parking sensor system design leaves a lot to be desired.

Our lowly 2009 Fabia with ancient passive LCD swing radio has an excellent rear parking setup. Progressively bleeps faster the nearer you get until a continuous bleep at only a few centimetres. The simple  graphic display with increasing number of lines, 5 or 6 at the appropriate part of the car graphic is intuitive.

The superb on the other hand is far too sensitive, doesn't convey any immediately meaningful distance information. Overuse of colour, no fine distance info and the sound from multiple sensor positions is just confusing and annoying.

I have to drive through my narrow garage door with mirrors extended still have 2 or 3 centimetres each side, and the sides of the car are at least 15 cm clear. But well before the front of the car is near the door, it's all turned red and is screaming. I just want to know if lh or rh side is nearer, but its not possible to know. So I turn it off and stick my head out the window.

@Gizmo or any of the VCDS experts. Is there any way to vary the sensitivity of the side sensors using VCDS? Clutching at straws here, but I'd make the trip to you (bearing goodies of course) if there is.

I would be happy to make the trip too!

I would imagine it is adjustable (as it lets you make adjustments like distance to kerb etc, however it is not something I have looked into changing.
