Not even a week of ownership and probs!!

Featured Replies

Hi

Ive got a 02 vRS, and im not sure if i have a prob, but its playing up a bit, but only sometimes, yesterday i was blown away by a std 150 1.8T Octavia on a good straight road, mine just wouldnt pull, i felt like a plum:mad: but driving home it was going fairly well, it just doesnt seem to pull at the mo like it did when i picked it up on monday last week, you can hear the turbo working, and the tickover is good, also my MPG is bad, ave 23pmg!!! less than my BMW 325 i sold:confused: and no its not due to quick driving as i havent done any since owning it!!! (apart from trying to keep up with the 150 Octavia)

Do you think i need to clean the MAF or other stuff??? i was using normal unleaded fuel, but put super unleaded in yesterday to see if it will help, so will give it a few days and see, but is there anything else i can do to help improve the response of the car, and get it pulling well again, (without modding it) would like to beat that 150 Octavia next time!!!!

Low RON fuel won't help the performance much, for sure, and it will probably reduce the MPG a tad too.

Any errors showing on VAGCOM (if you have it?)

That sounds like a problem. Economy should be in the 30s mpg and should have pull thant a 150

Yes, the Owner's Manual recommends 98RON for the Octavia vRS.

Vacuum/Boost leaks seem to be showing up this time of year, try having a search on here for more info, else it might be a sensor problem. As WW says VAG-COM would be a good start to check for codes.

How do you know that the other Octavia was standard ?! The 150bhp models can be remapped too !

Si

Sounds like a MAF problem to me. Had the same on my subaru. Poor MPG and drop in performance.

the person driving the other octavia was about 90!!!! dont think he would mod one!! hehe

has anyone got a vag-com in east anglia??? will also do some searching to see what else i can find out, i want to be more hands on with this car, rather than a garage doing everything!!, is sainsburys super unleaded 98ron?? not sure, but using that at mo.

also, another question if i can, the suspension seems good in the corners, but acc or braking there is alot of up and down movement, ie, put ya foot down and the rear squats alot, is this normal? handles well though :)

thanks again

I think there are one or 2 there. Where do you live?

Perfectly normal... if its throwing the front up and making the back squat are you sure there is problem? are you sure your just getting used to its power?

one surgestion is to maybe invest in boost gauge so you can see when the car is boosting correctly and when it is not..

Im in Ipswich area, if there is someone local that would be cool.

If the front comes up as normal, then there is no probs, wasnt sure if it was supposed to do that, like i said it handles well in the corners, so must be no probs.

This is the second vRS ive driven, and the first one was quicker and seemed to rev alot quicker too. Still i will see if there is someone with VAM-COM that can see if there are any probs, otherwise will give the MAF etc a clean and see if that helps.

Also, as i had one fill up with normal unleaded, do you think the ECU has adjusted itself to run on that, im now on super unleaded again???

Cheers

Gav

Sorry to hijack thread! How much are VAG COMS and where can you pick them up from?

Disregard above, just found the thread......How much?:thumbdwn: I am assuming that you need a laptop to plug the other end into as well? Either that or a long piece of wire from the drive/garage to the PC:D

from what ive read, you can get a lead from ebay for £30 ish, poss cheaper, then you can download some free software, but this is just to check for problems, not to amend anything, that software costs alot, not sure how much.

would do it myself, but my work laptop is locked down, so waiting to get my own one then will get this.......

If he blew you away then he obviously wasn't driving like your average ninety year old & he sounds like a ninety year old who likes to have a bit of fun so I wouldn't completely discount his car being remapped ! :D

Age is no barrier to remapping ! :P

Just to cheer you up within 2 months of buying my wife a Fabia Tdi Estate I've had to fix:

Brake Light Switch

Steering Angle Sensor

Drivers Heated Seat

Heated rear Windscreen

Temperature Evaporator Sensor

Rear Washer Pipe

Skoda's they're good eh ?
