Updated Speed Camera SD card files (July 2018) for Amundsen Sat Nav Unit

Hi Shorty76. The map card is independant of the POI update process. You only need to update the maps on that card from time to time (I believe there is an update due for this month actually) and you HAVE to put those map updates on that SD card (backup the old CD card files and delete them from the card prior to updating) as card it has a hidden secure code which allows it to function.

The POI updates like these cameras are uploaded onto an "ordinary" SD card and once the data has loaded that card can be removed as the data then is stored in the SATNAV memory (this is conveniently done using the second "media card" slot temporarily). Good luck!

Great thanks I'll give it a go!

So I've updated maps I've put your latest camera file on a separate ad card and followed the instructions but get this error message?

Thats not the Maps update screen, that’s the Software update screen.

It's actually the poi update screen

Try formating the card (fat32) then copying the files (un-zipped) to it, that worked for me.

Unzipped?

Unzipped?

The files are compressed (zipped) to make them smaller, they need to be "un-zipped" so your MIB can read them, see the first post by @Welsh Boyo

I may have had too much wine & brandy (and a G&T..) to be of much more use......

Sorry I miss read your reply! Yes I've done all that as instructed.

Which Modular Entertainment System do you have? The SD files have been complied specifically for the Amundsen MIB2 unit and there have been no other problems reported by downloaders other than in creating the SD card image and executing the download process correctly. If your latest map update file was STD2_915EU_12018 then you should be OK. You could also press and hold the menu button on your unit to show the service mode data (the software version in my case shows as H29.319.51_STD2Nav_EU). I know that the Columbus and MIB1 units need different SD card files and I may be able to help if that is your situation.

I have compiled an up-to-date Speed Camera file (July 2018) for the Amundsen Sat Nav using the excellent POInspector software configured for a “Discover (Pro & Media) Navi” SD card. You can download the Camera POI file (attached). The password is my username in lower case with no space between the two words. It's working welll on my Octavia lll MY2018 and may well be OK for other vehicles.

Unzip and copy the zip contents to an SD card (any card will do provided it has a capacity more than 2Gb) To activate, place the SD card into your Sat Nav unit then go to "Settings", "Manage my memory", "Update my POI's" which will upload the data to your unit.

Next, ensure that in "Settings", "Map", "Show POI's" is enabled and also in "Select Categories" scroll down to the camera POI's (FIXED,AVERAGE,REDLIGHT,VARIABLE,SECTION END and MOBILE) and ticked each one. Also, in "Nav announcements"  enable "Note my POI's".

The unit will make an audible  sound when you are near a camera and the display will show which type it is. The Amundsen system is not intelligent enough to know which direction you are travelling in though so you will get warnings for any cameras in your vicinity and that is the best it can do. That should be enough to avoid unexpected fines though!

If you would like me to provide regular updates  (if I can) then please like this post and reply accordingly.

Enjoy :)

Thanks and sorry about the late reply,  I'm away for the weekend but I'll update asap.

I don't actually know which it is but I think amundsen? It's an 18 plate. I'll check which software version it is but prob won't be until Monday!

Your unit looks like Amundsen MIB2 so it should work fine. Maybe use the "delete my Poi's option" in the manage memory menu first and ensure that your SD card is formatted as fat32 before unzipping the "PersonalPOI" folder and "metainfo2.txt" file to it. You might also find that there is a system software update for your unit as my software train is P0472T and you are on P0468T. Your dealer should be able to update that for you. Also check that you are registered for Skoda Connect free if you do not already have it (your dealer should have set that up for you - but mine in Cardiff did not so I did it myself). Once online and registered go to the update option there to see if there are any other updates for you. Skoda Connect is free for the first year of a new car and then ridiculously expensive for what you get per year thereafter - something like £60 a year. If your car doesn't have an inbuilt SIM (those that do have a built in emergency call button near the rear view mirror) you will need a WiFi source to get online. I use a mobile WiFi device on the road and pick up my home WiFi at my house. You will get live traffic updates  which are quite useful as well as weather, rainfall radar, news etc. Did you also check that the map version you are on is STD2_915EU_12018? Good luck. I don't think there is much else I can help you with.

Thanks again, yes I’m on connect but it’ll only be for a year at that price!

The map version I downloaded is STD2-1030- EU1-201819

ive done everything as you instructed but the cameras still won’t go on! The sd card is a bit old so I’m going to get a new one tomorrow and try again.

thanks for all your help and I’ll leave you alone now!

Hi, sorry to be a pain, does this work for the MIB1 unit ( cd player and 2 sd card slots in glove box) ?

I haven't been able to install speed camera poi's following any other method on this site !

The answer to that is I don't know - but I have attached a file which should work on the MIB1 units (it is not password protected) - have a go with it and let me know how you get on! Format your SD card as Fat32 with a 32kB cluster size first.

Try putting the files in the folder from the zip file into the root folder of the SD card.  The text file doesn't matter IIRC.

just tried that … still no joy …. have noticed tho that when I attempt to manage memory in nav setup, I do not get the option to update poi's … only 2 options available - define home address and delete user data … am I missing something ?

Checked that in my MIB1 Amundsen this morning - there is no option to add POIs.

All you can add is destinations by putting vCard format files onto an SD card and putting it into SD Card slot 1.

To confirm - there is no way to add POIs on a MIB1 Amundsen

Poo !!!! thanks for confirming this … at least it will stop me having sleepless nights trying to work out where I went wrong !!!

Thanks all for all your kind suggestions tho …

  • 2 weeks later...

Welsh Boyo,

I've noticed an error with one of the camera positions. Not sure how you compiled the list and positions but as I approach Lichfield Trent Valley railway station on the

A 5127 towards and away from the A38 the alert goes off about 100 yards either side,  there is no camera there, nor in the immediate vicinity, it's not a problem but just thought you ought to know.

Cheers

As mentioned earlier I do not micromanage these files but simply compile them from publicly published databases as and when they become available. Micromanagement is possible if you have suitable camera databases and use a registered version of the poinspector software.
