Skoda Fabia Problems

Featured Replies

Hello ,
So I bought a Skoda Fabia estate 2002 1.4 16v before a week and I got 2 issues so far , I need your help.
First Problem :
When I take off the car takes off slow like the handbrake is on and it starts to vibrate til it takes off properly , when I drive over 30 KM/H sound comes from around the tires like its rubbing into something  and the noise gets louder faster I drive.
After about 80 KM/H the car starts making a loud noise and when I pass 100 KM/H the noise gets lower but the car isn't stable it goes sometimes bit to the left or the right, and when I brake from like 70 or 80 KM/H the car starts shaking .
I checked my brake fluid and it was literally green with some dark particles in it .
Second problem :
Is every couple days I try to start my car and the anti-theft light comes on and the engine doesn't start , I have 2 keys but they aren't electronic so I have to disconnect the battery for couple of minutes and connect it to start .
Any Solutions please , Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you may have binding brakes and warped the discs as a result, you should replace the discs and pads and change the brake fluid.

You also probably have a dry joint on the instrument cluster PCB where the reader coil attaches, just refow all the solder joints on the big multiway plug socket to be certain.

The two immobiliser solder joints on the instrument cluster are marked in red circles on this pic...

Is there a way to check about those faults ?

Can this be cleared by OBDII or this is the only way to be done?

You've already told us that the brake fluid is green with black bits in it so it needs flushing out and replacing.

You can check the discs by jacking the car up and turning each wheel by hand and feeling/listening to the binding, you must replace the discs as a pair and fit new brake pads anyway.

It cannot be cleared with OBDII, you must repair the solder joints and clean the plug and socket with contact cleaner to correct the problem permanently.

You have some work to do, sitting at the computer and pressing buttons won't fix these problems.

Can always take it to someone who knows what they are doing, brakes aren't something you want to be messing with if you dont know what to look for

I can change the fluid and the brakes , but I want to be sure maybe the brake caliper is bad or something  , My mechanic is on vacation that's the problem so I wanna be sure before doing anything .

I have some experience with changing the brakes and the fluid , But never had this problem before.

I can't tell if your brake caliper is bad from where I'm sitting, if it is bad and has caused the binding then you'll need to change it as well as the discs and pads. The symptoms you describe are those of warped discs and binding brakes.

Let me update you , I tried to spin the wheel and it spins so hard , So i took it off and tried to spin the rotor and its the same then I took the brake caliper and tried to see if the rotor will spin well but it doesn't its stuck with or without the brake caliper is the same its hard to move.

Did you have the gearbox in neutral when you tried to turn the rotor?

Automatic or manual gearbox?

I had it on neutral , its manual .

Well this is really odd. Maybe the wheel bearing is seized. Seems strange though.

Yeah I didn't find anything on the internet I even talked with a mechanic on the phone and he had no idea whats going on . I even took it to MOT and they found no issues with the car.

Is this on both sides and is the back plate clear of the disc?

how hard are we talking? there will always be some resistance there but should be able to spin the wheel ok without having to put loads of effort in

i think i can spin 2-3 rotations before it comes to a stop when the car is jacked up
