Adaptive Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Just seen a carwow review from earlier this year where Matt states the adaptive cruise control is standard on all but the base models. Is this still correct, I have an se l 1.6 tdi manual confirmed for build next week?

Thanks

Cruise Control is standard however, the Adaptive version is an extra

I have found cruise control to be useful on the increasing number of A road and motorway sections where average speed cameras are becoming more frequently found.

Spec the ACC if you can.

In 20-20 hindsight I wish that my Octavia had it in place of the standard cruise - Probably the only thing I would change if I could.

I specified ACC on my 1.5 SEL and it's brilliant. Drove over 100 miles recently on motorway and never touched brake or accelerator.

One tip, is set driving mode to individual and select ACC sports mode. This way the car will accelerate more quickly past slower cars when they pull over. In economic mode acceleration is painfully slow!

Good tip, Zealboy!

Yes, cruise control was standard on my SE-L. I'd probably go for the ACC as an option if I were to order again.

I did as well. Its brilliant. We regularly travel from Devon to Kent. It's invaluable. The only issue I have is that it won't let you undertake a car. Very frustrating on the M25 when there are many lanes and drivers refuse to move over to the left lane.

Too clever for you Janner, you're like me obviously wanting to get on. I also live in Devon and try and go to M25 as little as possible. Very useful too on busy single carriage roads, very relaxing

I use ACC also in town. It's very relaxing to let the car break and accelerate  itself. It has its own lever and  you can adjust the speed with +-10 km/h, facility that the simple CC seems to not have. With the simple CC I could adjust the speed only with +-1km/h, which was not very confortable.

Do you know how to adjust the distance it stops to the front car, but to keep the distance to the front car while driving? I find that it stops too far, while if I reduce the overall distance from the settings, it drives too close to the front car and stops too late.

I want my self also ACC

My current setup has

Front assist radar wich propably is the same for ACC

Cruise control

Speed limit

I guess that I need only a coding to activate it

And retrofit the steering wheel new control buttons

This is the first car I've owned with ACC and it is very useful i must say, just have to remember when driving the wife's car that her's only has normal CC and isn't going to brake by itself :D

it will brake automatically to prevent undertaking but a light tap on the throttle will overide this ;) used it many times on the 'smart' motorway when the overheads are instructing you to use the hard shoulder but no one is !!

if you use the toggle on top of the stalk you can alter the distance on the go and adjust to the situation if you're in trafic mode. I have it quite close and then just increase the faster you go, you will get a visulisation in the MFD display.

I think that you also need Lane Assist for ACC - which, I believe, uses a different camera up in front of the rear-view mirror.

I havent got lane assist

I found that if you set ACC speed at say 38mph & then flick level up the speed increases to 40mph. Then flick the level up again & the speed increases in 5mph steps. Also what ever speed you set ACC at the vehicle will maintain that speed up hill & down. I am driving a Karoq 1.5 DSG Edition.

You should get that with standard cruise control. You can also adjust speed up and down by 1mph by pulling the lever towards you or pushing in the button on the end.

I dont use ACC as much as I expected. In heavy traffic, I normally use it only if feeling a bit tired and wanting some help. ACC tends to use more petrol. A driver can reduce braking by spotting trouble further up the road. Given a reasonable gap and a lower speed, a driver can judge when it is safe to let the gap close a bit as traffic slows down.

Also, 3 or 4 times I have been overtaken slowly, ACC has locked into the car in the lane to my right and braked the car. That’s annoying.

Having said that, £300 is quite cheap for ACC and I don’t regret taking the option.

I have just collected my 1.5 SEl DSG and thank you for a very clear instruction for ACC operation.... I don’t suppose you fancy doing such a clear instruction on how to use the Speed Limiter?!

I have not bothered with the Speed Limiter function. I relie in the ACC to prevent me going too fast, if the situation requires.

I rarely use cruise control as it seems as soon as I engage it I have to keep fiddling with the speed or disabling it because someone has cut in front of me or slowed but ACC is another thing altogether and takes account of other vehicles. I would certainly spec it.

Whilst ACC might make the job of the driver easier, it isn't helping traffic congestion. The constant flashing of your brake lights can have a profound reactive impact to the flow of traffic behind you.
