was never happy with how the single wipe sat so did a bit of digging and found if you flip the linkage 180° it sits a lot better.

Can i make a suggestion about your bonnet vent?

Take the rubber off, and start it again in the centre of the bottom edge. That way it will have 4 nice rounded corners and the joint wont be as obvious ;)

Its on solid that, it wasnt quite long enough which is why its in one corner.

Its coming off the road for winter so i may get hold of a longer piece and redo it if it'll come off.

Well thats it, now sorn'd.

Few jobs to do while its off the road and get it ready for its mot beginning of the year.

New front springs and solid top mounts if the weitec shocks on it are are ok if not it'll be new coilovers.

Standard manifold off and swapped for the better 182 one, not looking forward to this as its a subframe drop to get at it :D

Its letting water in somewhere at the rear so i need to locate that and seam sealer it all.

Needs 2 tyres on the 16's but i hate them so I'm dropping down to 15" wheels, been offered some newly powdercoated oz superleggra with new tyres at a cracking price but there vag 57.1 cb so need to find someone who can mill them out to 60.1 for the clio.

And plenty of other bits :)

182 manifold and link pipe sorted just need to find time to collect from coventry.

Being 4-2-1 is a bit more midrange grunt which should give better driveability on track compared to the standard 4-1 of the 172

Also sorted some wheels of a mate.

15" oz super t's,

Not a massive fan of multispokes but for the price i couldn't refuse, recently powdercoated and new tyres. Found a local lady to mill the centres from vag 57.1 to the renaults 60.1 to :)

Bagged a bargain this morning, port matched upper and lower inlets :)

Shame about the colour but for £45 the pair I'm definitely not complaining. Saved me over £150 by the time I'd posted mine out.

And collected.

Just need to send the tb off for englarging to 64mm and flowing.

Similar mods on another 172 made 202bhp and 183lbft. I'll be happy if it can make near that :)

On it dude,

Exhaust manifold collected, gasket set ordered.

Injectors being boxed up and sent off for a refurb. Should all be back together over Xmas ;)

Lower inlets on now I've sourced some bolts that seemed to be missing.

Camber/hub spacer on one side done to.

Injectors boxed up ready to send to the fuel injector clinic for a refresh.

Throttle body boxed up ready to send to ms engineering to be enlarged and polished to 64, the same place that did the inlets.

Hopefully get the rest built up over xmas although I'm not looking forward to dropping the subframe to fit the exhaust mani, supposed to be a pig of a job :D

Day 1 (yesterday) of dropping the subframe to fit the manifold..........stupid idea should've just bought a decat :D

Absolute mare of a job, bolts snapped, sheered, rusted and basically spinning in places you wouldn't even think to put a nut! :(

Got it dropped a touch (not enough to fit mani) and notice all the arb bushes are shot.....another job to add to the list.

Bruised/swelled knuckles, cuts and temper lost.......shut the doors and walked away, nothing smashed up :D

Round 2 today

Cutting discs are coming out to play!

  • Author

Have that! :D

New subframe bolts added to the list :)

Bit more done today,

Upper engine mount back on, steering rack semi bolted back up to the subframe (misplaced a nut :D)

Everyone's at work tomorrow so I'll try and get a bit more done.

Progress :)

Engines back on its mounts,

Exhaust cut and joiner made to suit.

Battery relocation started.

Cant do much else now until the shops are open.

Need subframe bolts, powerflex arb bushes, track rod ends, ball joints, length of cable, distribution block and a battery box.

Took the front coilover off to dismatle the spring and found the actual shocks damaged to :(

Looks like i will have to fork out for new so its not so much a budget build anymore.

Coming along nicely,

!72 cup shocks from Renault parts direct https://www.renaultpartsdirect.co.uk/parts/steering-suspension/renault-clio-172-front-shock-absorbers-cup-version/

fitted with cooksport springs make a great budget track/fast road set up.

eibach camber bolts and geo set to :

-2deg camber all round

front toe between 10 - 20 minutes toe out

rear toe between 15 - 0 toe in

172 cup front lower wishbones add a bit of castor angle which gives the steering a bit more feedback

The 172 cup alternator set up is far superior to the PMS air con delete and come up for sale at £100 ish including the 75amp alternator ( its different to the standard 110 amp 172  version ).

I would look at group n cam timing and a remap when you replace the timing belt too as these add a nice bit of mid range torque and keep the engine producing power to 7000 rpm rather than dropping off at 6400.

there is a 3kg cast iron weight bolted in front of the drivers side engine mount that can be removed, it acts as a mass vibration damper that does sod all on a track car.

This one?

Cheers for the heads up :)

Group n timing and map are on the cards once its back on the road. In fact most of what you've mentioned is :D

Another productive day.

Distro block in ready to run the battery wire from inside the car.

Wiring loom for the seats chopped. I will need to find some with clip to turn all the associated lights off :D

Engine mount trimmed of any excess weight and to allow the ecu to mount fluch on it.

Interior roof painted where the deadening was.
