Brake/fog light-VCDS adaptation??? Scared

Featured Replies

So, a friend notice my brake light was out on LHS,

appology if this has has already been covered

shown on the pics below....as an amature on VCDS I’m scared to make any adjustments to adaptation etc without guidance.

the bottom incandescent light which comes on with fogs on right cluster but not left...I had ago on VCDS and managed to turn it on as a fog light but still doesn’t light up when braking as shown below.

i tried changing Liechte function 26nsl....B26 and it work for dogs but then tried to do it as BRAKE LIGHT and adjusted the dimmer to 100 and no brakes worked at all......S#%t myself and undid every thing I’d done.

so the lamp works but isn’t programmed as a brake light whereas the other side is???

Any help greatly apreciated

I'm sure a MK3 owner will confirm, but I don't think the bottom lights are suppose to be brake lights. I think they are only used as fog lights...

Can you post a full autoscan and adaption map for 09?

I’ve had a tow bar fitted that slaves off the cluster wiring.

wonder if there’s a problem either with the wiring or the relay.

also, I’m new as new. If I wanted to program lighting...how do I know which lights are which? Channels etc

But there is a method with VCDS to enable 5 brake lights which many of us have done.

It does need several leuchte adaptation channels to be changed which can be a bit daunting to a novice VCDS user

Well I did manage to set the light on with the fog light but then managed to stop all my rear lights from working at which point I changed everything back...

is there a channel list or is it a case of try it and see

I'm pretty sure there are channel lists out there but most guides tell you exactly what needs changing for various functions. It might be worth concentrating on the issue you have before starting to tweak other lighting channels. If nothing else it'll mean you're coming from a known starting point.

At least for me, it sounds like one of the following is happening:

- car has been coded for 3 brake lights but either the towbar relay or it's wiring are causing issues

- car has been badly coded for 5 brake lights

- something else ;)

If you post the autoscan/adaption map, it should confirm if the car is coded for 3, 4 or 5 brake lights.

There are guides for each here:

is this the right thing?

A map of the adaptations for 09 central electrics

i was also looking to add emergency blinkers but its not in the long coding options, thought it was standard for 2015 vrs

Yup, that's the correct adaption map.

It looks like your car is configured to have 3 brakes lights so it's highly likely that the towbar relay kit is causing your brake light issues.

Might be worth adding pictures of how it's been connected and it's make/model if possible.

So... today is a good day.

thank you for all your help but it’s. Ow sorted...unfortunately is got it in my head that the light isn’t on instead of why is that light on!

The bloke who fitted the tow bar has taken a feed from the blue white white strip (lower incandescent FOG light) and for no reason shorted the white with blue strip (LED brake light) in one of those awful connector blokes

I’ve removed and repaired the LED imageproxy.php?img=&key=66c1d7df650950daimageproxy.php?img=&key=66c1d7df650950dabrake light wire.

It only cost me the price of VCDS which I wanted an excuse to buy

So how to program the 5 light braking???

Excellent, glad it was simple enough to track down as wiring can be a pain :)

For 5 brake lights and dual fogs, I'd probably try:

Leuchte26NSL LA72-Lichtfunktion A 26 -  Change from "Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Rechtsverkehr" to "Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt"

Leuchte27NSL RC6-Lichtfunktion A 27 -  Change from "Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Linksverkehr" to "Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt"

Leuchte26NSL LA72-Dimmwert AB 26 - Change from "0" to "100"

Leuchte26NSL LA72-Lichtfunktion B 26 - Change from "Nebelschlusslicht wenn kein Anhaenger gesteckt und Linksverkehr" to "Brake light"

Leuchte27NSL RC6-Lichtfunktion B 27 - Change from "not active" to "Brake light"

That's based on the information from these posts and an adpmap from an another car with the same BCM:
