Skoda servicing... Is this a good deal?

Featured Replies

Hi All ,

My 63reg Greenline II with 56,000miles had its last minor service last October 49,000 miles.

It has full Skoda service history

I'm at the crossroads wether I just do the servicing myself as I like to do oil frequently, more than capable bar the fuel filter (haven't got the balls to do it lol that's another story)

Anyway Skoda are offering one off fee of £405 for 1 X interim and 1 X major services.

Would you go for this?

Each serviced detailed below..

Cheers

Interim:

  • Oil & filter change, replace pollen filter (if required)
  • Vehicle inspection and report to include all lights, instruments, bodywork, glass, locks, battery, coolant levels, drive belts, braking system, steering, hoses, drive shafts and exhaust system
  • Full vehicle road test
  • Diagnostic check including report
  • Re-set service interval display
  • ŠKODA service record

Major Service:

  • Oil & Oil filter change
  • Replace pollen filter, replace air filter (if required)
  • Spark plugs (petrol engine) or fuel filter (diesel engine) (if required)
  • Remove wheels and check brakes
  • Check/adjust tension of all drive belts
  • Check gearbox oil level (where applicable)
  • Vehicle inspection and report to include all lights, instruments, bodywork, glass, locks, battery coolant levels, drive belts, braking system, steering, hoses, drive shaft suspension and exhaust system
  • Full vehicle road test
  • Diagnostic check including report
  • Re-set service interval display
  • ŠKODA service record

I would go to a VW Specialist Independent and get Servicing & Maintenance, Brakes Serviced etc if you are not doing them.

If you can do other stuff have them change the Fuel Filter.

£405 for Minor & Major is no bargain if the Air Filter or Pollen Filter are not changed or the Fuel Filter, or you have to pay extra for the Brake Fluid Change.

PS,

Has your car already had 'The Emission Fix',  or have you 'Just said no, leave well alone'?   Best be sure if you are not having it done that they understand that clearly at any Skoda / VW Approved Repairer / Dealership.

Cheers for reply.

My car has had 'the fix' , I see your point also ref Air/pollen/fuel filters..(if required).... If I'm paying that I'd want them done regardless lol

I have to laugh when I see these lists - where applicable - if required - yeah.

Since when did any VAG design need to have belts checked for tension and adjusted? Last century?

As an idea on pricing, using eurocarparts without any discounts, to get the oil and all the filters for the car (ie the major service) using genuine bosch parts, would total £90 a time (£65 if using GSF car parts and their discount codes and oil from ECP). Major and minor could cost £130 in parts. So thats £275 labour for about 2 hours work , and that is if they change all filters on the major service!

In my opinion, using main dealers for servicing is not good value for money, particularly if you can do some or all of the work yourself.   However, having a main dealer service stamp will be worth it if you need to have work done under warranty or are looking for a goodwill contribution from Skoda when out of warranty.  So there comes a point (maybe at the end of year 4) when you would be unlikely to get goodwill from Skoda so doing the job yourself or having it done by an independent becomes more cost effective.

Best buy a Warranty then, because any Goodwill or 'Gestures' being offered on a 1.2TSI engine replacement or a DQ200 DSG is a wish and a dream these days.

Some might well be getting a 20% 'Goodwill' gesture when actually Skoda knows the vehicles components were faulty and 100% is the right figure for the 6 years or so.
