Urgent help needed

Featured Replies

Just cleaning out my EGR, when I took it off a broken bit of metal fell out. It looks like the end of a shoe horn thats broken off its about 30x20mm.

Just wondering if any one know what it might be not sure I should put everything back yet.

Thanks

Hello, although i cannot diagnose this an image tells a thousand words.

I recently had my EGR assembly replaced at a cost of £700, dependant on your model the EGR could be in different positions

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-VALVE-COOLER-VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-1-6Tdi-2-0Tdi-CR-11725505-0280751016/332359813178?hash=item4d6230483a:g:8y4AAOSwDn5Z3uaZ is what i had replaced,

However https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-VALVE-FOR-SKODA-OCTAVIA-SUPERB-MK2-YETI-2-0-TDI-ROOMSTER-1-4-TDI-03L131501D/253854216640?hash=item3b1ae3f1c0:g:OZgAAOSwyH5bkQDi is also listed as an EGR.

Someone on here will be able to let you know what's what with an image.....good luck

I reassembled the part and drove for a while. Nothing went wrong so I guess it was nothing major. I think it came from the engine end of the valve. Whatever it was it can't have been doing the car any good being stuck in their.

Free piece of metal size 30x20mm inside engine, either at intake, combustion or exhaust path, does never promise anything good ...

Any pictures of the part  ?  Is it at all possible that its a part of the turbo given you have a TDI ?  An imbalanced turbo would not be a good thing to have go wrong ?

Think the OP should be getting the turbo checked out as that sounds very plausible.  Given the RPM a turbo operates at, any imbalance is only going to lessen the life and could cause other major damage if it gave up :-(

From the first post, I understood that the part that fell off was coming off the EGR, not something else ... I don't see how the turbine wheel could come off as simple as that (unless it had been removed and dismantled)

Damaged / unbalanced turbine would already gone with big bang.
