Swapping a 245 vRS for 280 Superb dilemma

Featured Replies

Hi folks

as per title really, I have a dilemma and interested in others thoughts.

Basiclly had a FL245 estate with for just over seven months now and owned it from new.

As much as I love the car, it’s handling and overall performance, I just can’t come to love the looks.

I know now it’s a bit of a standing joke on the forum about the ghastly headlights on the Mk3 which over time I’ve started  to agree with. :D

So here’s the thing.

Ive got an opportunity to swap my car.

A straight swap from a main dealer who will take my car in exchange for their 280 Superb hatchback.

Both March 2018 cars.

My car has 4000 miles on, theirs has a few more miles, pan roof, canton and a few other gadgets.

Its not often a ‘deal’ has me tempted like this, but I had a 280 for about a month a year or so ago and absolutely loved it.

Silky smooth power, refinement and space.

No doubt the dealer will be getting the better deal as I reckon my car being rarer will attract more punters, otherwise why would they agree a swap?

Any feedback appreciated.

Edd.

  • Test driven this afternoon and signed off the paperwork.    Had good look around the car beforehand  and it was mint.    Being prepped and serviced for delivery next Monday.

Why don't you swop your 245 for the 280 then swop the 280 for my 230.  My 230 doesn't have the squinty eyed looking front end.   You know it makes sense.

  • There is one condition though, Dragon Green or the deals off

I have a Pre FL 230 and if I could do a straight swop for a 280 superb, same age/milage I'd bit there hand off.

So would I in that situation :notme:

By straight swap, do you mean literally that, just hand over the keys with no additional financial input? If so, snap their hands off.

Canton is a nice extra, especially so if you don't have it in the 245. Can only assume the 245 is likely to generate more demand/interest than a Superb 280.

As you've already had a car with the equivalent engine I'm sure that you're longing to have the extra power back under your foot Edd!

Exactly that.

My car for theirs. No cash involved.

That's a real tempter, especially if you had a 280 for a month and liked it.

I did. Very much.

I think all these gags about the face lift has given me a complex :giggle:

Best if you do a "we buy any car" comparison on the value of both, that will tell you how much money your really losing. My guess is the VRS is worth a fair bit more otherwise they wouldn't swap you, not least because they are getting rare through no supply like many other hot hatches. Expect about 2K - 3K in a deal like that. They will want a profit on both.

My March 2016 VRS 230 estate PFL is still coming in at £13750 with 40K on it.

I agree the face lift is nasty at the front, and it hasn't improved with time on me like most cars. But you cannot see it from inside! Could be worse, ...... a Juke

I was lucky in certain respects as I got the Skoda discount through using their finance and then settled within 14 days to keep my deposit contribution and two services.

Also managed to negotiate an additional dealer discount by providing the dealer with a quote from orange wheels which they matched.

Doing the maths I’ve lost about £3000 in seven months which sounds a lot but the Superb has lost more than the Octavia as it had a much higher list price when new so someone else has forfeited that loss much more than me.

Residuals seem strong on the Superbs as they do on the 245’s currently.

I just knew this would happen

So...when are you picking the 280 up?  Do it, you know it makes sense on every level!

What colour is the 280?  Canton is very good BTW (can't recall if you had it on your previous 280)

Only £3k loss in 7 months on a new car is miraculous, the norm would be nearer 8-10 with dealers profits taken off. How do you work that out? The Superb would have had a massive discount new, I nearly got one as the deal was exceptional however when I tried to take it up they couldn't get a car and offered me their demo for about 12k under list, it was 35k new with extras. But wasn't much cheaper than the new one I wanted without a lot of the extras which i didn't want in any case, including the Canton, nothing wrong with standard system if the graphics are set up properly. Same for most cars, they set the standard cars up to sound flat, easily corrected.

Nothing wrong with it, but Canton is noticeably better. There is a dedicated amp and more speakers + sub. Additional cost aside, why would you not want it over the standard setup?

It’s a surprise mate.

If I go through with it I’ll hop over the fence into the Superb forum and post some snaps :tongueout:

With it being a dealer demo car they get to write off a lot of money with Skoda from the discounted purchase price, that is why they need to keep them for 12 weeks before they can let them go, as I understand 12 weeks is the qualifying period.

This particular Superb was registered to Skoda UK and used as a management car.

Needless to say it’s probably had a hard life.

Thrashed from cold and used for various chippy runs by a 17year old office junior.

They are built to take it I guess.

I would take it free or cheap but certainly wouldn’t pay a lot for it. At normal audio levels the difference is negligible with adjustment. If you like door loosening bass levels yes the extra power for high level bass is very noticeable, I’m too old for that. It’s also my day job. My M3 has 300w Harman Kardon, at the levels I use it’s a waste of money I’ll never get back

What spec is the Superb? Sportline?

I'd bite their entire arm off whatever it is tbh, especially considering the 280 is 4x4...

“If” :D

Considering the extra cost new of the Superb it's a no brainer to go for that deal and a remap on it will get you 350bhp and 4WD = FUN:biggrin:

Best bet is stick your registration into carwow or wbac and get a valuation, also get the registration of the Superb and do the same.

Just taking a quick look on auto trader, there are quite a few Superb 280's around , not so many estates and they can still readily get them.

Your Octavia 245vRS is highly sought after and I think they have a buyer desperate to get one.

I did exactly that and the Superb was coming back at £1250 more in value.

Both values were an absolute joke mind you.

I do think they’ve got someone lined up for mine. They admitted that having a 245 in stock is more appealing than a 280 as they have a few in already.
