Skoda octavia Vrs 2012 p/s drl not working

Featured Replies

Hi so one of my drl stopped working and and ordered a brand new one off ebay from a trusted seller and today i installed it by my self but no luck it still wont work so what could be the problem? Do these need coding ?

First thing to do is to take the bulb out and test it by putting it across a 12 V supply to see if it lights. Could be it was dead on arrival.

If it worked put it back and try again. There is no coding required but when you switch on the ignition the car performs a bulb test. If it finds a faulty bulb it will remove the supply to it until you next turn on the ignition.

Just one point to note, the DRL bulbs are long life bulbs with filaments that can support a lot of vibration. Standard bulbs soon fail. See car handbook for details.

Another point, look at the failed bulb if you still have it. In my experience the drl bulbs stop working because the central solder contact has been fretted away by the vibration. You can reuse the "failed" bulb once you added another blob of solder to build up the central contact.

It is this drl led also works as parking light. I will do the 12v test but if the bulb passes it then what else could be the issue? Got mot in 2 days

Try the new one (and your old one) on the other side, you will then know if the issue is with the wiring or BCM

Wish i could because on the other side there is a washer bottle blocking the connector

Just noticed yours is a Vrs.  My answers apply if you have factory fitted bulbs rather than LEDs, and uses the side lights as parking lights.

Yhup a lot easier if you take the bumper off, I finally managed to replace my "lifelong" DRLs on my Oct VRS 12 over the weekend. The DRLs are secured in with 4 screws, and I struggled to get to the bottom 2 screws with the bumper still on. Didn't take me long removing the bumper though, 20-30 mins max.

I was supposed to take some pictures but unfortunately had to rush through it as it started to rain :( I didn't come across a guide on here for a DRL replacement walk through.

Did you manage to sort the problem?

Just a quick heads up for anyone else looking to fit some soon, The aftermarket DRL units might require you to play around with the wiring a little.

Before you ask why Aftermarket and why not genuine?

Stealers price - £187 each side (inc VAT)

Aftermarket - £90 for both sides (inc Delivery) - can get hold off some more too.

First impressions -  Light quality and the Brightness seem the same compared to a genuine unit, so cant really complain.

Well happy with the lights! :D
