Time will tell just how long until tariffs are increased at Public Chargers if they do increase due to the current and ongoing things elsewhere in the world. Those with Home Fixed Tariffs might be OK for a while. I have a fixed Next Drive tariff until July & it will just be a case of seeing where things get to with the cost of Electricity. Maybe the rises will be no worse than liquid road fuels.

the government just lost the VAT case atthe first tier tribunal, so unless they appeal the prices shpuld be coming DOWN by 15%

If the vat rate drops from 20 to 5% the gross price will go down by 12.5%

If it does for all Commercial Providers of Public Chargers, not just Community Based groups & whatever limited quantity of electricity. . As for those businesses that can claim back VAT now @ 20%, what difference is there really? For those that pays and that is that then lovely if prices drop, but means nothing if the VAT decreases and electricity costs increase....

'Eon Next' tariffs increased today for Home charging.

I love the lack of clarity about what times the "ultra low off-peak rate" is available on the Next Drive Smart tariff.

If you are clicking on the site the times are clear. Maybe yesterday i should have renewed at the higher tariff and shorter by 1 hour Next Drive but i gambled on waiting till July & seeing. My mistake probably as from next month i can turn off the heating so higher gas price would not of mattered. 6 hours offpeak. & daytime Smart Charging.

My time with the ID.4 has come to an end. It has been a very good car and has lovely to ride around in. I thought I'd give the final costs for charging. The vast majority has been home charging, the first 3.5 years at Octopus Tracker rates (generally 2-3p below SVR) and the pst 18 months on Intelligent Octopus Go 7p/kWh. There were some free charges in the first 6 months of ownership as Tesco and Aldi offered free charging back then. Paid for public charging has been while away from home, usually on holiday - notably 3k miles around France in 2023.

Since getting the IOG tariff my cost has averaged 2.95p/mile.

The overall cost per mile for 63908 miles has been 5.09p/mile.

Insurance comparable to previous Karoq, £390 last year and £452 for next year.

Maintenance has been relatively cheap. First service was £280 at VW, second service was £180 at my local independent. 3x MOTs @ the going rate, no failures or warnings given.

The car has been relatively expensive on tyres, due to having to replace 6(!) for punctures/pothole damage. Only two have been replaced due to wearing out. (and one of those got a thorn in the sidewall 10k miles later!).

Basically I've found the car cheaper to run overall than the Karoq was and has repaid the slightly higher monthly cost of purchase with lower bills.

I'll be keeping the same track on the costs of the ID.3 that will replace it, which I expect will be even lower due to lower insurance, better efficiency and lower monthly payments.

I was kicking myself for not Fixing my energy for 12 months last Wednesday for a few pence more a kWh and an hour less offpeak. So i panicked and Fixed yesterday at the latest price. As to range, that is now @ 4 miles a kWh driving local. I have the AC off and the Rapid Screen demist as not needed, i have used it pretty much all the time since i got the car but now have Wind Deflectors fitted and the windows a couple of mm down, the interior of car is dry even though dogs carried. So 52 kWh @ 9.5 pence a kWh home charge is just about £5. That is good for 175-200 or so miles. Just the Public charging increases to pay, whatever they get to.

will be interested how you get on with the ID3, my wife went out looking for a year old ID3 to replace her 9 year old golf tsi and came home having bought a brand new Cupra Born for about £1k more than a used ID3

The only Public Charger i know that is still @ 55 pence a kWh for 50 kW DC charging, privately owned and using a Charge Place Scotland card. Debit / Credit / Electroverse take 70 pence. 41 kWh was £22.45. 3.5 miles a kWh. 143.5 miles probably. If petrol @ £6.36 a gallon then that would be 3.5 gallons. getting 41 mpg would be near as damn it the same cost. 55 pence a kWh is to me a fair enough price, but the 2 nearest charger that are Council owned are 70 pence a kWh and giving out under half the power and have a 1 hour limit. 1 has been blocked by a van locked in since last night. There is a max charge time daytime. But the van is no longer charger, still still locked in.

be even lower due to lower insurance,

Well that failed at the first hurdle. My current insurer suddenly wanted £640 to insure the ID.3! Told them to foxtrot oscar.

A quick confused.com later and the ID.3 is insured for £331 and the Citigo for £130. No longer on a multi-car policy but saved over £300 on the new quote for the ID.3 and Citigo from my existing insurer. I guess LV don't want my business.

Did you inform them of the lower quotes?

No, I was so outraged by the £300 odd increase that the guy couldn't explain I just told them not to renew and that I'm taking my business elsewhere. They didn't even try to improve the offer.

The policy was due for renewal 2 days after the new car arrives so I already had a a renewal quote which I had negotiated down.

Today Eon Next have changed the Fixed for 12 months Next Drive tariff. The Offpeak for 6 hours has gone from with 9.5 pence a kWh with V17 to 9 pence a kWh with V19. But the tariff for gas has risen. Top prices available today. Bottom as they were yesterday.

^^^ Sorry, that is nonsense. The Offpeak is actually showing as @ 12.51 pence a kWh. I swapped to V19. But my confirmation email shows the 9 pence a kWh, midnight to 6am. Phone call to them tomorrow then.

The new tariff for 6 hours offpeak with Eon Next Next Drive. 5.99 pence. Next Smart Drive is cheaper than this, and if i had renewed a day earlier than i did it would be even less i would be paying.

My Intelligent Octopus Go tariff has reduced to 5.2p overnight & smart charging and 28.83p peak. With the new ID.3 on the drive giving 3.9 m/kWh average so far I'm looking at less than 2p/mile on fuel costs.

My Day rate a bit lower than that 27.16 p but I hear many are not too happy with the Standing Charge but them there is a £60B program to upgrade the Grid to be paid for.

If we also add in some free sessions with Octopus the real cost can be even lower which will be very nice.

Cooper E and R5 efficiency getting up over 4 KWh now temp hitting 15C and even thd much bigger Scenic should be getting close to that.

I do worry public chargers are going to get much busier as dealer showrooms get emptied of EVs and EV usage also climbs and we need to get to that 200k public chargers eve though 90% plus of EV charging will continue to be done at home most likely.

They should try living in North Wales or Scotland then! Actually my standing charges came down 1p a day to 68.7p

Eon Next just asked if i want to sign up for their Power Up / Power Down Scheme. So they are introducing what others already do. I use so little electric during the day and between 16.00 - 20.00 that i can not power down. Plugging in using the 3 pin lead for 2 hours is not going to be Powering up much. 5-6 kWh max..

Saving up for the Mersey barage and then lecky weekly be so cheap locally.

Scotland has the Great Glen hydro scheme then they will be set fair !

If we ever get to £0.00 kwh per unit the standing charge will be £2.50 a day.

Having generation on the doorstep seems to have no bearing. Most of Scotland has generation nearby yet they have the highest standing charges in UK. I have about 200MW windfarm 3 miles up the road, second highest standing charges in UK. Yet those places in the South with no generation nearby have very much lower standing charges. Those furthest from generation should be paying most for the grid upgrades to carry power south not the least.
