DSG not engaging

Featured Replies

Well, apart from booking the 120,000 mile 1999 Recaro seated, T/C automatic gearbox equipped Steyr Puch 290GD Van in for a bit of bodywork, and no disgrace after so many years of benign neglect,

as opposed to throwing any more money into a *BER 2010 120,000 mile DQ200 equipped Skoda.

*Not much to say 'cept BER= Beyond Economic Repair.

Nuff said.

P.S.

If I really took the new-car-head-staggers, I would be buying a Peugeot Rifter/Burper, the one with the proper T/C automatic gearbox.

Software problem apparently.

Ours not the only 1.5 Ateca affected so it’s a wait and see job ggrrrr

Have you tried turning off stop/start as a temporary measure?

I've got into that habit until the engine comes up to temp and I haven't had the problem reoccur, having said that it's been very mild recently and it's only happened at around zero degrees to me so it may be a coincidence.

Tried every combination :)

SEAT have a car (manual) that they are able to get to fault at will (zero throttle response) so fingers crossed a software patch will be available shortly.

I'm posting on here out due to the use early adoption of the 1.5 in the Skoda, it's only a recent incarnation in the SEAT.

@Bigcarpchaser  Could you be clear about your SEAT Ateca 1.5 TSI DSG please.

?

When was your car built and when was it first registered,

and do you know where it was built was it in Spain or the Czech Republic?

I couldn’t tell you if I’m honest but it’s brand new, delivered 26th October.

Is there a way of checking country of origin somehow or I could just ask the dealer :)

Perhaps VAG have stopped extreme cold weather testing to save money?

Extreme cold weathers are not likely to have been an issue to many in the UK that have not seen below -5*oC in the last few months.

If there are issues at around 4*oC and a bit lower that is an issue,

but then there are issues as Main Dealership staff have eventually realised.

Had this happen to me this morning, -1c out all electrics on, reverse ok, then autohold came on, put into drive and nothing. Turned auto hold off still no throttle, no revs nothing but idle was sitting at the same it would when fully warmed engine. Put it into reverse again and it moved then into drive then fine. At end of my road (100 metres away) happened again. Drove to work in London on motorway (12 miles). Lots of stop start, temp now -2 but car fully warmed up, no issues. Very puzzling.

This issue has been horrendous during these cold mornings. Every day it's 5.5 degrees or lower it happens.

I asked my local garage today for an update and they said a fix should be available in Q2 this year.

I had a new issue on the weekend, when accelerating up to motorway speeds in 5th and 6th gears the car will suddenly started to kangaroo, there was a loss in power and it sounded like it when you hit the rev limiter, but at 3ooo rpm.

The garage think it may be related - as it says on the worksheet "under acceleration" so I guess that covers most things.

Damage has already been done.

If it was doing that with mine I would reject the car and get my money back.

YMMV

Under 6 months old it should be straight forward, bar arguments with dealer, but legally you have all the cards...

The same problem on mine:

And here:

On my side I noticed the ESP blinking, without reason, of course. Did you notice the same?

Since then, it hasn't happened.

At the service they didn't find any error logged and could't tell what was the problem.

I hope that it will not kill my wallet after the warranty passes.

My 2014 DSG Tiguan won’t engage drive occasionally when coming out of coast, not often , but it seems to be a “feature” of some cars.

I’ve ordered a manual Sportline 4WD Karoq, to avoid this problem on the new car.

Faulty fuel sender hopefully. I took it to a different garage and they replaced it the next day. It’s been fine since and we’ve definitely had cold enough mornings since so fingers crossed. There’s still a software update planned for this quarter too.
