Are there any good Skoda main dealers out there?

Featured Replies

After my abysmal experience with Mitchell Skoda near Chester I am considering my options for future service work 1) Find a really cgood customer focussed Skoda dealer on Merseyside within 20 miles of the Wirral. 2) Forget all about main dealers and concentrate on a really good independent on Merseyside. 3) Do nothing service wise except get the car MOtd at MOT time. 4) Try to learn more about  practical car maintenance and do the work myself.

I am fortunate enough to  have a great independent in my area. I am definitely prejudiced against Skoda main dealers given my own bad experience but maybe there is a good one out there? I know a lot of people who take a chance and who rely on the MOT to keep their car up to the mark. I might be able to learn more about practical car maintenance  but I havent got the mobility I once had( 74 years young) and that might be a problem.

       What do Briskoda readers advise?

         Thanks for reading.

Answer to question in title.

Yes there are good Skoda Main Dealerships.  But management and staff / employees can leave etc.

Skoda Specialist Cars part of the John Clark Group Dundee. Good Service Desk staff and Workshop.

But then Skoda Main Dealership Servicing is not cheap for the Diagnosis, Servicing or Preventative Maintenance.

& MOT's, tyre fitting etc might not be done at the Dealership.

MOT's are just testing cars and telling you stuff is OK or not and no way to be sure a car is A OK between MOT's.

Shame that Skoda UK corporate directorship /management got rid of quiet a few " Family "owned smaller local  dealerships as the couldn't or wouldn't comply to spending a few million quit "To the new overly suited and booted, eat your dinner off the floor" executive dictate from VAG .

They lost some really good service technicians and support staff. Two near  me have taken out other manufacturers dealerships and are doing well.

Well done for sticking two fingers up to the Big Bully Boys.imo

4) Find a good 'fixer upper' who can MOT.

Some dealers are good for 6 months to a year at time of purchase then all staff have changed over, the sales girl / technical staff on phone pretend to be dumb or are dumb, or give dumb answers. Been using same garage for wifes car for 10 years, same staff cash in hand for small jobs

Luckily i have a knowledgeable tuning shop in Lancashire as well that charges the same labour rate as the 'fixer upper'

so got 2 places and usually ATS for tyre / wheel balance issues.

I ordered and received my car from a one-site dealer who 25 or so years previous replaced a gearbox without quibble on a year or so old used car my father bought.

Within weeks this dealer had closed and the franchise was at a new glossy showroom and a member of a group that locally held the franchises not only for VW, Audi and Seat but Toyota and Honda too and elsewhere has Mercedes, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus and Mini.

Once 3 years passed I changed to local VAG specialist independents while a garage close to where I work can be trusted for MOT's.

At the time of delivery I mentioned about a two or three year service package but no response, I soon realised why.

My nearest dealer, where I have never been treated as someone who could be a potential customer, again is part of a large group who somewhere also have Seat, Citroen, Peugeot, Fiat and Nissan franchises.

In the area by word of mouth a Ford dealer 10 or so miles away ( not the nearest to home or work ) is a one site business with an excellent reputation and this could well influence my next car purchase.

If there are, I haven't found one, after trying four.

I know of one VERY good independent - but I am reluctant to let them near my Mk. 2 Fabia vRS CTHE twincharger - YET!
