Pirelli Seal Inside tyres any good ?

Thankyou. I see the quotes above, but unless I've missed it, I can't see any mention of whether the tyre performed as it was supposed to and got the car home or to a tyre fitter without deflating.

Those quotes were just snippets, there is more detail if you're able to find the website.

The forum moderators won't let me tell you where it is.

One of the guys had to transport the tyre to the tyre fitter, suggesting it couldn't be driven on.

Aha, got you. Thankyou for that

My question is; do these tyres self seal as Pirelli claim, and if so, why is there a repair kit in the boot , or should I spend even more money on a space saver spare ?????

Anyone have experience of these tyres ??

In the absence of anyone reporting what actually happened when they got a puncture in a self-sealing tyre, are you now able to answer the question yourself? Have you kept those tyres, and been unfortunate enough to have a puncture?

Can now report that it’s probably fine for nails but not an inch thick rock...that’s what the goo looks like in the tyre - without it I wouldn’t have been able to drive to the tyre shop.

Thanks for the photo. Good news that you got some limited ‘runflat’ capability from the product. Is that a factory coating (eg ‘Seal Inside’), an aftermarket additive (eg ‘Puncturesafe’) or a roadside post-puncture gunk treatment (eg ‘Tyreweld’)?

I drive a lot, 85 000 km per year. I used to have punctures all the time, but since I started to use Pirelli Scorpion Verde Seal Inside tyres, I haven`t got any puncture anymore. Might be just a coincidence, but that`s the fact.

Yep so under the tyre goo (the cream colour stuff there’s a thick but slightly pliable silicon layer which is the ‘self-sealing’ stuff. Lost all pressure in a minute without using the tyre goo - with it I was able to drive 15min to the tyre shop to get the tyres replaced only losing 1psi.

Helpful to know, thanks. I am considering Seal Insides for my daughter’s car now, even though it’s factory-new, and for my own car next time I replace tyres through wear or damage. 85k takes me three years, and I would expect a couple of punctures in that time. How long have you had the Seal Insides? If it’s, say, a year or more I would be confident they are making a difference. For me that difference would be well worth the extra cost.

Using since 2019. Just installed third set in a row.

I had this recently:-

It must have just happened prior to me stopping as it was totally flat when I got back to the car.

I removed the screw, pumped it up and it's been fine since.

Here's a photo which I took when 'exploring' what was actually inside the tyre.

I pulled a screw out of one of my seal inside tyres, I think it might of sealed itself if i had given it enough time for the sticky goo to plug up the hole but given that the wheel was already off the car I didn't want to chance it and used one of those dodgy repair kits and its been fine since.

I think I would carry one of those repair kits over the opting for the seal inside and failing that I don't think I would ever buy a car without a spare wheel either.

What sort of repair kit is this?

The ones which look like a stick of liquorice.
