Retrofit/replace automatic headlight switch to turn off/on lights

I've got an SE Tech Estate on order just now and it simply never crossed my mind that the car wouldn't have auto lights as standard. I honestly can't remember the last time that I had a car where this wasn't a standard feature. Obviously standard on the Yeti L & K I have just now and on the Octavia Elegance (SEL) spec car that I had before that.

Looking at the link above it doesn't make any mention of auto lights as such, just daylight running LED lights, which I guess will be on all the time. On this occasion the deal was so good on the SE Tech specification that upgrading to SEL just didn't make any financial sense as it was going to cost nearly a £100 more per month.

@Loada - can you clarify please?

Scrap that, just found where you had confirmed -

If it's got auto lights good news, no good reason why it shouldn't have it in this day and age but car companies fiddle around with their specifications in all kind of weird and not very wonderful ways!

I know mate, i know. I had to search around at other websites that listed the specifications to see what there was and go from there.

If anything I'm going to miss is the switch from Bi-Xenons with AFS to Halogens :( Thankfully one of my clients owns a business that sells automative lightbulbs, so may be able to find something decent.

Does your mate sell the sensors? :D I'm struggling to find a way to retrofit this as information seems to be sparser on the mk3 and mk3 facelift.

Unfortunately not mate. No idea what's driving your wipers but you lack the sensors for everything else in the windscreen and the cost to sort that alone is probably more than getting that light switch.

Yeah, found a green colour schema one to match the rest...guessing there's no additional coding required for these?

None at all mate, it's plug and play. The switch it self has it's own programming functionality (via bluetooth I think) to enable coming/leaving lights etc.

Oh nice, I've really been missing the coming/leaving lights, guess that little thing has it all.

Guessing it picks up your phone when you unlock your car and turns it on? Don't want to be sitting in the apartment and the lights randomly come on during the night.

Sorry, I have confused things by mentioning bluetooth. If it has bluetooth, it'll be to allow you to change the various stored settings (i.e. when to turn on, how long for etc.)

From there, the switch uses information the car provides (and it's own sensors) to determine when to turn things on/off etc based on your preferences.

That's actually bonkers, that's a really cheap retrofit for not a lot of time and effort...thanks for sharing your knowledge, it's been a great start to my Skoda career ;)

Failing that - I have just found https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/302943255586?chn=ps but it will involve a lot more work and obviously costs more too.

Yeah, I have no idea how I'd even get the casing/glue back on after fitting it...tried finding some videos online but mostly resulted in people smashing the windscreen around them just to get to the part.

From what I understand, they would need to be bonded to the windscreen, which will also need removing and refitting. For what it's worth, easier to use your hand when you want to turn them on/off :D

If you do go down that retrofit route with the switch (from the initial comments) just make sure it's for the MK3 - there are a lot around for the MK2 and it wasn't immediately obvious.

Ditto on the lights, the Bi-Xenons on the Yeti are amazing and are one of the main things I'll miss, whereas the halogen lights on my previous Octavia were poor to put it mildly; not sure if they've improved them any since 2013! Other than that the SE Tech spec has virtually everything that I need with only a few extras added to the standard specification to keep the costs down as far as possible.

So I've been contemplating this for a while and I'd like to get the auto wipers too instead of the lights.

I don't really have the experience to do this myself, can anyone recommend a service that would be able to do this?

.............. I asked the sales person if it had automatic headlamps and they said yes.................

^^^^^   This is the biggest concern I have with this entire thread.

You asked the salesperson about the car that they should know about inside and out, and they've clearly mis-informed you - and now you are considering paying MORE money, and possibly causing damage/voiding warranty, by messing about retro-fitting it yourself.
I realise salespeople are allowed to make mistakes, and also they are allowed to NOT know every intricate detail about a vehicle. But they work in a sales dealership... with LOTS of information available to them at an instant's notice. If they didn't know the answer, they should have said so and confirmed it before telling you yes.
This isn't a $400 TV... it's a $40000 car, and included features are a big part of how/why customers choose one model/brand over another. (Hell, I'd even quibble with the salesman if my $400 TV didn't include the features they told me it did)

Get someone else to "randomly" enquire about an identical car and see if the same incorrect information is supplied. Then go talk to your salesman personally, and then bring it to their attention that a BIG part of the reason you bought the car, was for automatic features like wipers & lights, which you (and your random anonymous friend) were informed were present.
If nothing else, you should be able to negotiate for the DEALER retrofitting & coding these functions, which will NOT void any warranty and shouldn't be any cost to yourself.

I went through a similar experience with a factory-supplied extended warranty as part of the sale, when I purchased my car. But it wasn't written on the contract, and Skoda tried denying that the extra warranty was offered.
Luckily, I had screencaps of their own website, which clearly advertised it as such, on the date I purchased my car.
Weeks of messing about and emails back & forth with Skoda head office, and I've now got a document clearly indicating my extended warranty and a correct end-date.

If we - as customers - just bend over and accept being shafted by our suppliers, then nothing will ever change.
