Octavia 3 cabin smells

Featured Replies

Hi,

The cabin in my Octavia seems to be prone to cabin smells. The pollen filter seems to do nothing when driving behind a smelly old van or driving over a dog poo.

I asked the dealership to check the pollen filter was installed and that it was a carbon one - they said it was and that the Octavia only has a carbon filter option from the main dealer.

Coming from a Vauxhall insignia, the air intake was up high just below the windscreen wipers under the plastic trim. Is the Octavia's intake further forward in the main grille?

I find myself using the air re circulation button regularly but it drops the auto climate control and the blowers only pump at the set temp.

any ideas.

thanks

I'm sure I recall the Octavia monitored air quality and automatically turned on recirc, or is that only when reversing?

Is there not an option in the climate system (press setup on the climate buttons then settings in the infotainment menu) to enable auto-recirc?

You can smell it when driving over dog poo? Really?

Apart from how unlikely I find that statement, I don't think many dogs would poo in a road, and survive.

More likely you have bacterial/fungal growth in your a/c evaporator. Smells when a/c is off, disappears when a/c turned on. Needs a anti bac treatment carried out.

I know what you mean OP, especially if you are behind smoky, old, pre-DPF diesels, you can definitely smell it in the cabin. No idea about the dog poo though or other funky smells from outside, they never seem to be noticeable in the cabin.

I replaced the OEM pollen filter with a Mann Frecious Plus activated carbon filter earlier in the year and I haven't noticed this anywhere near as much since.

Cheers @ahenners , just ordered one of these from ECP for £12.99.

Gotta be worth a try, as the original filter doesn’t do much to eleminate smells as much as I’ve previously experienced with other premium car brands, even with switching ‘Air Care’ on.

I have to turn on recirc each time I pass the land waste on the M9 near the quaint little fishing village of Grangemouth. But to be fair, I've had to do that in every car I drive past there.

As for smelling dog poo - I can't even smell dog pooh when I ride over it on my bicycle. What size of dogs live down your way?

My little dog likes to poo in the road which is a concern even in a quiet village at 7:00am.  I pick it up which can be hazardous also.

Well the new cabin filter has made the world of difference.

500 miles covered this week, and no external smells coming into the cabin since replacing it.

The original filter was a Denso unit, and looked pretty much the same as the Frecious Plus, with three different layers, so wasn’t sure the new one would make a difference, but i’m Pleasantly surprised.

Cheap ‘upgrade’, we’ll worth doing.

Cheers,

Nick
