I have an annoying problem that appeared now when it's colder outside. The problem I have is when I start the car in park, it launches forward or backward. It's like it doesn't know it's in p. It goes out of gear almost immediately though. Too thick DSG fluid maybe? I just changed the fluid to Febi Bilstein DSG fluid. 

 

I don't know if it did this at cold temperature prior to the oil change. But it feels alot smoother overall after the change.

I haven't noticed it on mine, but I always start it with my foot on the brake.

 

It's always a little slower to change gear/pick up drive when it's cold though, which is slightly irritating as my morning journey starts off with a 3 point turn...

When I had our mk5 Golf with the same 6Sp DSG, as it got towards 9 years and about 69k miles, I did notice when starting in park it seemed to rock or move slightly.  But nothing like I think you are describing. I always used genuine fluid though changed at 40k. So when I noticed [the fluid] was probably near 30k Miles old.

 

Edit: I have not noticed the issue in the mk2 FL, currently at 55,000 miles, 8.5 years.  Fluid changed at 40k, again genuiine.

I'm at 140 000 miles  I always start with a foot on the breakpedal. Two days ago it engaged so hard the engine died. So I had to start it again, then it didn't pull at all.. This morning it didn't pull, slightly but just noticeable. 

 

I wonder if battery health can affect this? I know my battery is bad. 

Doubt it is battery related.  What about giving a reputable DSG rebuild place a call and describe the fault and see if they have experience (if nothing turns up here).  Another option would be to chnage the battery if it needs doing anyway, if no different you could try a genuine fluid and filter change. Did you change the filter?

The more I think about it the more I think it can be the battery, it does it when cold and when cranking the engine. A lot of strain on the battery. This morning we had +6 degrees and it didn't do it. 

 

Yes I changed the fluid and filter. 

If there is an electrically operated servo or actuator that is related to engaging / disengaging the clutch then low battery could influence I suppose. But I would of thought the lock out of P would of prevented virtually any movement.

For proper operation of DSG it is essential, that battery is in good condition. The internal servo oil pump is only driven by the battery. Also the hydraulic valves are controlled by coils that also run on electricity. Try with another battery, borrow it form someone if you only wish to test this. A voltage reading in the morning would help, car not started. Anything below 12.3 V could be a potential issue.

It's definitely time to change the battery. I think it sits at 12.2.

Try recharging it with an external charger.

I have, multiple times. Even tried restore with CTEK charger 3 or 4 times. Still its low 

Ok, time to change then

I can give an update on this, a new battery didnt fix the problem. But starting the car and quickly turn it off again, and then start it seems to work.
