Tailgate opening from key remote?

Featured Replies

when the tailgate open button is pressed on the remote is it supposed to do anything?.  it gas two gas springs but nothing happens.  just a click, but it doesn't open at all.  is this normal operation?

Yes, it unlocks the tailgate

Just don't leave your keys in the boot when you close it because it only opens the boot and not any of the doors unless you have already pressed unlock once or twice beforehand.:crying:

Cars with electronic tailgate can have it coded to fully open. Without, it just unlocks it and the boot lid becomes ajar.

I hear a click but the boot lid does not move at all.  maybe the seals are sticky?

With my Skoda a short push on the boot release button unlocks the boot.

With a long push on the boot release button the boot unlocks and then clicks open.

The boot lid moves about 1/2 an inch, it just unclips itself.

Thanks AG Falco

If the car is locked then a short push of the button unlocks the boot only and disables the alarm, the boot will lock again and the alarm will go on automatically once you shut the boot (look for indicators flashing). Handy if you just want to grab something from the boot.

Didn't know about the long push, must try that out.

So I was just playing around with the boot lid.  If I first unlock the car then press the boot lid on the remote only the signal lights blink twice.  If I hold the button for ~2 sec the lid clicks and grunts a bit, but nothing happens with the lid.  It does take a fair amount of force to release the lid from a closed position.

P.S. What is the proper name for this thing? Do you really call it a lid?  door?  or tailgate? :-)

Short click = Need to use the handle to open, boot will re-lock itself after a while if not opened

Long click = Can just pull the boot up using any surface as it's not latched now, don't think it can auto lock again

There was a discussion somewhere about a ghetto auto open on the second button by adding springs to the struts, as all that is needed is an upwards force.

Thanks for the info.  Good to know.  I guess it works as intended.  I just assumed it would pop open a small amount.  You can not tell its open, so I can imagine the button getting pressed (in my pocket) opening the lid then I unknowingly lock the car and leave the lid accessible.

I've got a big t shirt with that written on it :blush Had to wait and hour for a family member to turn up with the other key.

Yeah, it does sound like a well engineered convenience.  Dropping the while digging in the boot does sound like something I could do...just don't drop your phone with it!!!

I had to check twice.  To confirm, locked or unlocked, when i push the lid button on the remote nothing happens except for the lights flashing twice.  holding the button "opens" the lid locked for unlocked.
