Front brake disc size / why dont I have a PR code?

Featured Replies

I recently replaced the rear brakes and ordered them using the PR code 1KD from the vehicle data sticker, they were the correct discs and pads and I thought it was a really good way to be sure to get the right parts, most of the French or EU suppliers I use include the PR codes.

Today I replaced a front disc backplate and took the discs off to give them the good news with the angle grinder, the outside faces were great but the inside ones rusted away 50% so I need to replace them, I'm a muppet because I could easily have measured them while on the bench.

trying to order today I find that there are 280mm and 288mm discs available for PR nos 12M, 12C and 12E for the larger ones, my vehicle data sticker does not have any numbers like that, I put all the codes through a translator and the only relevant one was 1KD meaning rear disc brakes fitted.

So does anyone know what size my discs should be, its very difficult to measure in situ with only a difference of 8mm, easy if I remove one again but would prefer not to, also is there any other way of finding the PR code from say my chassis number?

Regarding the pads again there seem to be different codes for either ATE, TRW, or Teves calipers yet the pads I have seem identical to the old ones from my MK1, the thickness could have been different but they are all worn now.

My LH front caliper has a brake pad wear sensor if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Front brake PR code seems to be usually not on the car sticker, no idea why.

Can get the full car data via erwin, but there looks to be an easier way.

Comparing the parts diagrams for 280, and 288mm disc versions, the 288 has a steel wire clip on the outer side of the caliper, item 4 here: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2006-419/6/615-615025/

The 280mm arrangement seems to lack this feature: https://skoda.7zap.com/en/cz/octavia/oct/2006-419/6/615-615020/

Check your details again.

I use this VIN checker for part codes:

I have a post on here on how best to find OE VAG part numbers and cheaper equivalents, you'll have to search for it.

If you drive a 1.9 TDI it will be 280mm discs

Thankyou to you all for your help, I used the Vinchecker and printed out all the codes, they will be very usefull in future, I was surfing all the sites, one of them the German Autoteile whom I have bought headlights from before on Ebay have other sites in France etc but the discs and pads were much cheaper on the German site, but I dont speak German :D so it was a big leap of faith but I got all the way through the process through familiarity and a bit of Google translate including using a €10 discount code from my last purchase which was the rear discs and pads from their French sub site piecesauto.fr.

It looks to have all gone through, I am now confident to have the right disc size, price for a pair of 280mm vented discs plus pads, a pair of rear backplates, one front backplate (should have bought a pair last time) and 5l of 5W30 501/502 oil and a filter came to €103 including €15 delivery to France.

It used to be that it was far cheaper for me to buy parts in the UK, it is still cheaper than France but with the fall in the £ other european countries are now considerably cheaper for me in France.

Thanks again for all your help

What an incredibly useful find!

Until I tried it, I just assumed that your link was going to be a PR code 'decoder' that wasn't going to be any use to J.R. as his front brake PR code isn't on the sticker.

How wrong I was!

@Wino

Never assume...

Don't forget to click like and subscribe as they say!

Wish I'd had that link a few weeks ago.

This was me in the dark on my drive :D

The front brake disc PR code was annoyingly absent on my Superb too..

Give me a clue please!

I have never had much luck with the search function, I use google and it invariably leads me back to this site to the postings that the search function did not reveal.

I know, it's a pain in the clutch to find my own posts on a mobile which is why I usually just leave it to others to search for a term and author.

Most are too quick to ask online before showing some initiative and doing  the work searching themselves.

Here's my post:

If you list all your PR code numbers, someone might be able to help.
