Any pics of the boot in a 5 seater with a spare wheel??

Featured Replies

I'm looking to move back to Skoda again (from VW) by buying a 5 seat Kodiaq SEL with a spare wheel. But all my local dealers only have 7 seaters in stock and I can't find any photos showing what the boot looks like :(

The price list states that I can't have the variable boot floor with a spare wheel, so is it just a deep boot with the spare wheel underneath the flooring? Why can I have a variable boot floor if I don't have a spare wheel??

If anyone has a 5seat car with a spare wheel, could you add some photos to show what the boot looks like please?

There is not enough depth for the variable floor if the wheel is installed. When the wheel isn't there, you get enough space to drop the floor.

Thanks for that... So if I ordered the variable boot floor (which I only intend to use as a false boot floor with shopping bags, walking poles, walking boots etc hidden underneath) could I add the Caffyns Spare Wheel Kit and sit that in a corner with my other stuff around it??

Or does the existing boot floor allow me to do that anyway??

There is more than one version of spare wheel. Caffyns sold me a space saver wheel, and stowage kit. I think some of the other options may not be available except from the factory.

5-seater, standard boot floor with space saver spare wheel and Canton...

Many thanks silver1011!

So looking at the first picture of the standard floor with a space-saver spare wheel, if you lift the floor up to access the spare wheel, do you have useful spaces around it to hold things like walking poles and boots, and picnic rugs??

Chris

You may struggle with walking boots but I'd imagine you'd get quite a few small squashy things in those polystyrene compartments...

What you can't see is the jack, wheel brace, locking wheel nut key and tweezers etc. They're all between the boot lip and the spare wheel, just out of shot.

If you don't specify the factory fitted Canton sound system then the jack etc. all go inside the spare wheel (where the Canton subwoofer is now), thus freeing up all the space they're currently occupying.

My (dirty) 5 seater w/ spare wheel+canton boot. Don't think you can fit a walking stick (perhaps a very small telescopic one) but I've got some picnic rugs in there.

Many thanks all,

So it looks like the spare wheel is held in a polystyrene frame to secure it, which leaves little space around it... and the two panel variable boot floors have a divider across the boot which would prevent a spare wheel fitting under them.

That's a pity as it prevents me duplicating the arrangement I have in my Golf SV where the spare wheel sits at the very bottom of the boot, leaving me enough room to add a false floor below the variable boot floor itself (and so when the variable floor is in the upper position I have a 13 cm deep compartment under the entire boot to hold shopping bags, boots, walking poles, picnic rugs etc.)

Why do Skoda UK promote their 'simply clever' gadgets and yet ignore more useful ideas I wonder?? I've also looked at the Karoq to find that I can't have a sunroof unless I also choose a diesel 4x4 car! Why????

Best Wishes all, it's driving me back to a Tiguan I think :)

With the Kodiaq, and other similar SUV's you gain head room, but also additional ground clearance. There has to be a trade-off, which in this case is reduced under floor capacity. I'd be surprised if the Tiguan is much different.

The VW Golf SV is more of an MPV, so you get the extra headroom, but the floor pan can also sit lower, allowing a deep dished spare wheel well too.

For ultimate space an MPV can't be beaten, but if you want to sit high-up and bounce up kerbs at will then it needs to be an SUV, bringing with it compromises.

No I've checked out the Tiguan... it has a spare wheel in a well at the bottom of the boot and then a variable boot floor above it that leaves a 9 cm deep space below it when it's in its higher position. So if I add a false floor to sit on the spare wheel (like I had to with my Golf SV, and like my Golf Plus had as standard) I get the concealed storage space I'm looking for. It's not as deep a space as my SVs (which is 13 cm deep but it's near enough for me and clearly better than the Kodiaq arrangement.

Have you looked at the boot of a 7 seater with spare wheel, I’m sure mine has more storage space under the floor than the picture above of the 5 seater.

The spare wheel in that picture of the 5-seater looks like it is right at the back of the boot. On the 7-seater, it’s further forward (under the third row of seats) and you get the space underneath the variable boot floor bit between the spare wheel and the boot lip.

I don't think it's that much further forward, not enough to generate much more space at least...

Hi @gojoholo

I am looking at getting the Kodiaq - unfortunately now the 5 Seater is not available - so need to order the 7

I would need to remove the rear most seats and the vari floor section you show.

I prefer to have the spare wheel.

You say that you have the spare wheel below the mat - I assume its in a polystyrene support with tools.... Can you measure how much lower to the surface of the mat to the top of the side box (how much extra depth you gain) ?

Also does the mat go all the way under - or just the  up to the 7 seats..

Does anyone know the correct part number for the floor mat I would need to go ontop of the space saving spare wheel?

THANKS

I'll have a look tonight and post some pics.

Thanks

Its about 20.5cm from the false floor to the real floor, but there is an additional depression for the wheel itself, so only half the width of the wheel is protruding above the rest of the floor. The carpet appears to extend under the seats.

Thanks

But what is the difference in height between the top of the spare tyre to the top of the false floor?

I am tying to understand how much extra depth i would gain by taking out the rear seats and putting a floor directly on the spare tyre

THANKS

So basically you would end up with a floor at the level in the first picture I posted (where the picnic blanket and walking poles are resting on it). That would be about 11 cm below the current level.

THANKS!!!!

I have a 7 seat model and removed the rear seat along with tyre and foam around it.    I installed a full size spare tire where the space saving tyre was and put in a new false floor, which is about  10 cm above the existing floor.  I've also gained a lot of extra spce where the seat was.

By above existing floor - you mean the steel floor and still below the old level?

Do you have photos?

Do you have a part number for the mat that you fitted?

THANKS

photo 1 shows the chunk 4x4 tires and rims I'm running for true outback adventures.

photo 2  shows the new thin ply home made floor with carpet which sits on top of the frame, shown in Photo 3 and Photo 4, also showing the music bass still fits in the smaller rims. The rim is secured by straps , both sides , to the anchor points in the car.

Photo 3 also shows the space I've gained behind the 2nd row seats which is very large.

The Rims were purchased mounting holes drilled to match the pattern by the installer.
