New VRS 245 owner - Advise

Featured Replies

Put my deposit down today on a year old VRS 245 DSG special edition with the LSD and alcantara interior.

Sure these questions have been asked before, but I am now reading through the threads and the minefield of information and I cannot see/find that there are any remaps available for the 245 as its still under development? Also, advise on exhaust option.....Milltek/Scorpion/Milltek/Remus....and also air intake? So so many options listed!

Newbie to Skoda here, coming from AMG Mercs for the past 5 yrs, Evo's before. Did have a 2002 Leon R years back and loved that car.

Also any advise of free or decent upgrades to switch on on the car or to purchase?

If you have access to VCDS or OBDEleven PRO, there are lots of coding tweaks. High Beam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition are 2 of my favourites along with making the sidelight whiskers light up permanently with the DRL strip on the FL. Plenty of maps about for the 245, many take it to 300 or so bhp.

I don't have access to VCDS or OBDEleven PRO but have been looking the the list of codig mods on the thread. Car is already equipped with High Beam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.

What do you mean by this one...."making the sidelight whiskers light up permanently with the DRL strip on the FL"? I'm intrigued now!

Who to look at for the maps? Revo list as still in development on their website and AMD don't list it. A I correct in saying that any 2ltr TSI map so to speak will do the job regardless if 220/230/245?

If you contact Ben at AmD in Essex he can take you through all the mods on my manual 245 that they carried out between 12th March and 10th November this year going from 248bhp standard, 302bhp stage 1 and finally 336bhp stage 2. They are professional and friendly guys to deal with. Stage 1 map costs £500 upto £3,000 for full stage 2 hardware if you want to go nuts. Car drives brilliantly as a result of their input. Also uprated HEL braided brakelines and DOT 5.1 motorsport spec brake fluid fitted for £300 which eliminates brake fade if you fancy taking on a track day. They can also program your DSG box for faster changes.

Should drop 0-100mph time from 15 seconds to 11.5 seconds and 0-60mph to around 5.5 seconds according to APR demo tested with DSG and 330bhp. Their top speed increased to 169mph which is enough to scare some serious German brands.

That is decent gains. I guess adding things like the Forge TIP and turbo elbow will just help it the breath and smooth out the power delivery.

I'm coming from a 700bhp E63 AMG.....but this will be much more fun and usable.

Forgot to mention they do interest free finance so with £600 deposit on the stage 2 you end up paying just over £200 per month over 12 months, if that helps.:notme:

A standard 245 must seem a tad slow then.:envy:

Exactly I took advantage back in October and I don't think they will withdraw the offer anytime soon, enjoy.

Yes, but the power delivery and usable power is much more. The E63 is a great cruiser but not very chuckable and not great on track. Actually felt like I can drive the VRS.

You could only order one between May and November 2017 and some people waited 8 months to take delivery.:D

Off the top of my head, things the original 245 has that the now normal 245 vRS doesn't...

Electric heated alcantara seats with driver memory

Black pack plus (grille, mirrors, roof rails if estate, exhaust tips)

Heated power fold mirrors

19" Xtrems in gloss black

310mm vented rear brakes

It had a revised louder exhaust compared to the 230 brother of its time, not sure if the latest ones keep that or not.

Very simply, the little lines in the headlights that usually come on as sidelights can be set to on with the DRL strip at the bottom of the light unit. IMO it looks better than just having the DRL strip. Effect isn’t as good on the PFL as the lines are lit up by a down-facing W5W bulb. Even an LED doesnt help. FL ones are done properly. I’d love to get hold of a cheap PFL headlight to have a play at getting those lines lit up properly and swapping the DRL strip for one that has an indicator like the FL, then add the swipe feature like Audi’s have. Probably not gunna happen, but I do have swishy swipy mirror indicators coming very soon :)

Personally not a fan of the sidelight whiskers!

The original 245 also gets the sport display in the infotainment: boost, g meter and oil temp gauges. Heated front seats, colour display between dials? Cant remember what were extras to be honest... Its a great car, enjoy.

Those are the 'whiskers'.

Hopefully that images resizes sensibly, I'm posting on my phone, someone shout if it's stupidly big and I'll change it to a link...

Don't forget ambient lighting on all 4 doors (choice of 10 colours), Lane Assist (used twice) and front parking sensors all standard. Also lap timer for the odd track day.

Electric heated alcantara seats with driver memory < Nope just the seat sides are alcantara and are manual, sure can get these as a cost option

Black pack plus (grille, mirrors, roof rails if estate, exhaust tips)  < Yes has almost all of this standard but with lovely chrome twin exhaust tips

Heated power fold mirrors < Nope heated but not folding standard - optional

19" Xtrems in gloss black < Nope 18inch standard

310mm vented rear brakes  < Yes has these

It had a revised louder exhaust compared to the 230 brother of its time, not sure if the latest ones keep that or not. < Can't answer that one other than its still a proper twin exhaust

To help the OP I'll list out what my boggo MY19 245 has ;) above. Its a 7 speed DSG Hatch.

Also has the ambient lighting on all 4 doors and lane assist (also used twice) as Mr shy lists. Only rear parking sensors standard nothing on the front unless you pay for them.

Interesting that the MY19 did not end up with the rumoured single exit exhaust like the diesel models. Nice touch. Shame the black tailpipes aren’t there anymore, but powder coating them is cheap and leaves a really good finish.
