Scraping sound from front N/S wheel, I think.

Featured Replies

2016  model, intermittent noise that is hard to pinpoint, sounds like metal to metal contact on something revolving.  Seems to be from front N/S, can occur at any speed, may last for an hours drive then go quiet, may start again before journey complete or not until 1 or 2 days later. Sometimes more pronounced when going round a roundabout.  Braking does not silence it or induce it, sometime a slight movement of steering will produce it or silence it as though a slight weight shift will affect it.
Due in at dealers on Wednesday but any opinions before then will pre-arm me.  At least its still under warranty, just.

Try reversing a few yards. That'll shift the stone from your brakes...

Probably a small stone trapped between brake disc and shield.

A known issue.

I had this type of noise - it seemed to be coming from one of the n/s wheels.  As my Yeti was still under warranty, I booked it in for them to diagnose.  They had the car all day and had driven some 30 miles trying to pinpoint the source; it turned out to be a broken calliper spring on the rear n/s.  As the dealer was unable to acquire a new spring, they fitted new pads on both rear wheels.  Result - silence is golden.  Great service from Sparshatts at Fareham.

Thanks for the info.  Reversing hasn’t stopped it, so just hope it’s still scraping when I take in tomorrow.

Well I got the car back and no scraping sound, only managed to speak to the receptionist who had the worksheet, strip, clean and reassemble front n/s brake disc.  I can only assume it was a trapped stone as suggested.  Thanks for the insight.
