Dipping of NS mirror when reversing

Featured Replies

Daft question time.

Have set my NS side mirror to dip down when I reverse. Only issue is that in 72hrs of ownership the mirror has failed to recent rare to its original position.

Just wondering if if others have had the same and what you did to resolve. Really don’t want a trip to the stealer a few days into ownership

  • Just to let you know the software fix appears to have worked. One week on and the mirror is returning to its correct position.

  • If you haven’t set the seat position memory, you also haven’t set the mirror position memory that goes with it (different drivers will need the seat AND the mirrors to match their positions).

  • Hmm, sounds like a visit to the dealer is in order, or at the very least a phone call?

Just to be sure, you've followed this process when setting the position...

Yep, all of that (aside from setting that in the seat position). Noticed it tonight when driving up the A34 & its pointing to the floor!

Interesting conversation with the dealer. Appears I am not alone, as the dealer says it’s how the car has been set up, and they have had others in moaning about possible issues with it.

With the mirror control pointing to the L, the mirror will in fact dip when you reverse. However it will stay in the ‘down’ position when you move forward until you return the mirror control back to the O position.

Maybe it’s me, but I don’t get the Skoda logic in having to manually move the mirror switch. Wife has a vw golf, and that returns back to the level when you just drive - no need to change any buttons

It should with your car too, after reversing and driving away, once you reach 10mph the mirror should return to its previous position.

If yours isn't then it is faulty.

I remember having initial issues with storing on my Superb also.

You have to follow exactly the instructions.

Storing front passenger´s exterior mirror settings for reversing
The function for lowering the front passenger's mirror area during reversing
can be activated in Infotainment in the menu  /  →  → Mirrors and wipers.
› Turn on the ignition and press the desired memory button B » Fig. 85.
› Turn the rotary knob for the exterior mirror control to the position for the
front passenger mirror area » page 83.
› Engage reverse gear.
› Adjust the front passenger's mirror to the desired position.
› Disengage reverse gear. The set position of the exterior mirror is stored.

Press the memory button - maybe try first press "set" and then memory. There was a little glitch with something, just can`t remeber exactly what was the issue.

That’s what I thought. Just read your original note, once above 15kmh it should automatically return. I’ll try it on the right hand mirror and see what happens with that side

Absolutely nothing. Dipping in reverse is on the passenger side only - so left in UK.

Will give that a go. Not had much time in the car to play with the basics, as didn’t want to set the seat position initially as it normally takes me a couple of weeks to find a perfect position

If you haven’t set the seat position memory, you also haven’t set the mirror position memory that goes with it (different drivers will need the seat AND the mirrors to match their positions).

If you haven't set the mirror position, the mirror doesn’t have a setting to return to.

Exactly, first you have to set seat memory and then dipped mirror memory.

So, I have now set the seat memory and the mirror memory (using reverse gear etc).

mirror dips,  but won’t come back up and even when I move it to the O position it now stays down. Only way to come back up is to manually lift it up myself.

any thoughts? Or is it a trip to the dealer?

Have you set the seat memory while the mirror was in the normal position, to teach it the normal position, as well as teaching it tbe reverse position?

Managed to set the seat memory and also the memory within the infotainment. After a couple of errors on my part all set fine.

looks like I have a dodgy motor, as the mirror dips as though it’s on it’s last breath. The return seems to work on a time basis and gets halfway before stopping.

Time for a trip to the dealer.....

It could be the potentiometer.  Back in 2013-14 VW had some dodgy ones and the mirror dipping was disabled at the factory, so customers couldn’t try and use it and discover said fault.

My SEAT Leon was affected. I tried enabling it using VCDS and the mirror would dip but not return to its starting position. I then asked on SCN and googled around and discovered there was a known issue.

Now very annoyed. Just had time today to restore my settings in the car. Well I say store, I should have said try to.

i now have a car with no memory seats at all (they worked fine before). Mirror still dips, but still doesn’t return.

so the sum total of their work was to screw up my seats and not fix the fault it went in for.

frank conversation with the stealers on Monday coming up....

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but how did you get on? I picked up my Kodaiq sportline exactly a week back, and have this very same issue - I'm booked in for next weds :(

There have been a few threads on this, seems the consensus was a need for a software update.

Sounds a little suspicious to me. Claiming the car needs an update or a reboot appears to be the new "It's a characteristic of the car. They all do that Sir" excuse.

Not fixed. Currently waiting on Skoda factory to create a software patch that can be applied.

Love the car, but getting disillusioned a bit now as every issue is electronic. My blind spot & rear assist have now given up the ghost unless I manually select them :worried:

Any update on this, as I have a similar problem with my Superb Sportline I picked up in March. Seems very random as to when the mirror won't return to it's original position.

Car goes in on Tuesday for a different issue, but fingers crossed this gets dealt with as well

Watching this thread closely, got the same issue with the mirror on mine, but sometimes it does return, but not every time.

Does anyone with a MY19 have a mirror that dips and returns reliably?  Mine doesn't work 90% of the time either.

Update for everyone.

Aftersales manager believed the patch was available. After being in for 2 days, car has come back with no fix (and no resolution to the rear blind spot issues either - long story) The dipping mirror patch has been issued for the Karoq, but not the Kodiaq.

just hoping it’s not that much longer now, as it is very annoying.
