What can be retrofitted to a sportline plus

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to this forum, I'm specking up a sportline plus estate but trying to keep its list price under the UK £40k that triggers the £450 road tax

I want to add the following options

Dynamic chassis

Heated windscreen

Virtual cockpit

Virtual tailgate

Traffic sign recognition

Usb socket in arm rest bin

Rear backrest release from boot

That takes the list price to £39945

I'd also like

Reverse camera (can be retrofitted)

Heated windscreen washer jets (is the wiring there under the bonnet if they are not specked?)

Spare wheel, (is there a wheel well if not factory specked)

Forgot the main point of my post, sorry

I ment to ask, out of my chosen options is there any that are easy to retrofit either by myself or via a specialist

I have the reverse camera and i think this should be in your list of wants.... Its a big car and helps manoeuvring a lot easier than sensors imo.  Virtual pedal for tailgate... How often will u use it?  Its temperamental by what i have read by most that have it.  You will already have electric tailgate as standard on the sportline plus...

A must have....

I to would take the VP out and DC as well as I have been happy with my suspension.

More seriously wind deflectors,

Imo, DCC is by far the most sensible option to remove. It costs a significant amount, there's a question about its useability in this car (people report that even in Sport it is not as firm as you'd expect/like and nobody really complains that standard suspension is harsh) and worse case if you're after a sporty experience you have all sorts of options on aftermarket Coilover options, something you don't if you spec DCC as the shocks have to be DCC compatible. Definitely add reverse camera (again imo). Had it in my last 2 cars and it's an absolute must. Sure we all were driving without it for years but did we always drive nearly 5m cars? All it takes is one rushed parking (it's life, it can happen) to not see that weird obstacle that is sticking out, let alone that you can fit in places where it would otherwise be impossible to, without lots of effort/maneuvering. You don't get the camera to help you with everyday parking, but for the occasions where it can save a whole lot more trouble.

Heated windscreen is more of a nicety than a necessity surely. Spare wheel depending if you travel a lot, I don't so I had better uses for nearly 200 eur it costed. Virtual pedal the same. I have it but I wouldn't spec it if I was having hard time to stay within a budget.

Virtual cockpit I would stick with for two reasons: a) Not against analog dials in general but the ones on the Superb look horribly out-dated, as if they came out a 2001 Octavia. Really weird choice from Skoda to overlook those when the rest of the car has rather beautiful, thought-out lines. and b) They immediately give the car a fresh, modern-day look that should help with how it ages in the long run (if you plan to keep the car longer than 2-3 years). It's also costing a fortune to retro-fit and is not something you can do at any garage.

Just out of interest why do you want to up-spec the Sportline plus over say the L&K

Assuming you want the 272 4x4 the L&K is £775 more

but already  includes majority of your options DCC at £760, usb at £60 heated screen at £355  virtual pedal at £155, rear camera £355

The £40,000 extra tax limit allows the on the road price to be bit above £40k as excludes things like new car registration fee

Hi Adrian55555, thanks for your reply

Yes I really want the reverse camera, my last two cars have both had one so I think I’d have a tough time without, reason it’s been left off my speck list is it’s definitely something that can be added on once I have the car,

virtual pedal is something I think I’ll use, I’m a wood machinist by trade and we have a wood fired central heating system at home, most days I bring a few sacks of offcuts home to store for winter, it would save me having to put the sacks down as they often tip over and the wood rolls out onto the road, I’m wondering if virtual pedal can be added after I get the car too

Are these the adaptive lights I’ve read about with the eyelashes? They look even better than I thought but the budget doesn’t allow them sadly

Go for the L&K as above, you get nearly everything including tri climate and heated rear seats and a better sound system.

The other thing to consider is how much its going to cost to buy/fit and possibly code any extra bits compared to the cost of the road tax.

I love the look of the virtual cockpit so that’s an absolute must, I plan to keep the car for 5-8 years so , like you said, it will help the care age a bit more gracefully

ive had 3 fords in a row so heated screen has become something I’m used to having, I take my little lad to breakfast club before school two days a week and on frosty mornings it helps shave vital seconds off clearing the ice as we’re always running late, I could always set my alarm a bit earlier but even then I’d imagine we would still be in a rush

i want the car to come with the inflation kit, the compressor comes in handy if you have a slow puncture or to blow the odd lilo up with, and I’ve seen the spare wheel kits with jack and polystyrene boot insert for sale from aftermarket sellers, just wondered if all Superbs had a spare wheel well or only if specked from factory with a spare

DCC seems to be either loved or loathed by owners, I’m going to try and get a drive in both,

and the the camera is also a must have, but this seems to be easily fitted as an aftermarket add on, using a genuine Skoda highlife camera and some coding, saving £355 off the list price but costing over £450 to have retrofitted, better than £1500 extra road tax though

A couple of you guys have suggested going ‘for the L&K trim but I’m not keen on the std blue or white so would have to pay extra for another colour, then just adding the £450 virtual dash pushes the price up to £40195 and I’m still missing other options, plus I love the sport line seats, meteor grey paint  and supernova wheels

So, the virtual dash thing. What will you use it for?

After week two when you have shown all your mates and family you will probably set it to Rev Counter and Speedo.

Yes you can have navigation in front of you but the arrows that are there now are clear and concise.

You will be spending most of the time looking out the windows and not at the dash when driving along.

I hear what you say about the future but you are buying a petrol or diesel and in 8 years time you might have a problem selling such a car as it will be so yesterday.

I would spend the money on the Canton, you can listen to that more than you will look at the dash. Air con and heated seats and heated screen, heated steering wheel. Yes you will not use these options more than 10% of the time, apart from air con seats in the summer (and longer journeys) it's so nice.

I have the standard blue, it's not too bad with the chrome bits to break it up.

Traffic signs only seem to be correct about half the time on my car.

ACC and DSG is brilliant.

The traffic sign recognition was added to my spec as it's the cheapest way to get the front camera, other options that need this camera can be coded in because the car will have the hardware needed, including the active cruise control :-D

Virtual Dash guy here :blush

I don't think anyone sees dashes as parts that will be particularly "used" for something other than providing info on basic (or not so basic) driving data. Other than that it's mostly an aesthetic thing but one that you tend to appreciate (or not) as it's one of the things with which you have the most interaction being behind the wheel. In the case of the Superb in particular, the VD is just so much nicer to look at (I mean really the design of the stock analog dashes is beyond appalling)  that is enough to justify its choice even if you never bothered messing with the configurations, and something that immediately makes the car look cooler and more premium. There is also a lot more information that you can have displayed there at the same time with a virtual dash (speed, rev, consumption, map) without needing to reach out and switch your main infotainment's screens back and forth as with traditional analog dashes. I have caught myself doing that more often than I would like.

There is also a point about navigation. Turn signals are fine if you are a bit familiar with the trip or if the instructions are simple but for whoever drives often in new areas it's not hard to miss a turn or an exit, it's even happening with full scale Google Nav some times.

My reference to ageing better didn't imply you'll get your money back when selling but in that you'd be happy with your car for more if it has all the latest bells & whistles (less fancy stuff that newer cars will have to be jealous of)

I fully agree on the Canton as I am very much a music person and frankly, with a family and a full schedule the only place I ever get the chance to enjoy my music any more is when I drive the car so I'll take the best sound that I can get. This has actually been so true that I have put off upgrading my hi-fi at home for probably another 10-15 years when I estimate that I'll be able to consistently have some personal time for hearing at home...

One of the things that drew me to VAG cars in general was the digital dashes, when Audi first showed theirs I was smitten, every car on my shortlist had a version of it, last Saturday I drove a used Audi b9 S4 a new Volvo S60 T5, a golf r estate, a seat Leon carbon edition st the 280 Skoda superb, the Skoda had the best balance of features to running costs and performance, I was very impressed, none were anywhere near as fast as my current car but this Skoda will be ideal for my family, and it's time I grew up now I'm approaching 40 lol

I'm not fussed on music, when I'm in the car by myself I never have music on, I prefer to listen to the car, it's my Mrs that enjoys the music

Is Blind Spot Monitoring in your spec? That’s a great safety assistance feature.

I think it's standard on the sportline plus

Ah, okay.

If you’re planning on it being a long term keeper, there’s some very good prices for ex-dealer cars with a few thousand miles. Typically less than £30k.

If it's engine sound you will be wanting one of these.....:D
