Kodiaq SE Technology / 5 Seater SE L & Edition - Discontinued

Our last 2 Skoda's were found on the stock list having already been built so only had to wait 2 weeks for both. No patience unfortunately only colour really important to us.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi gents.

I'm wondering if anybody can help me understand what model of Kodiaq I'll get soon.

I ordered a Kodiaq 2.0 TDi 150 SE Technology 4x4 DSG 5 Seat on 7th September 2018 on a 6+35/10,000 personal lease contract. The delivery date was quoted as "March 2019". I contacted the leasing agent last week because I hadn't had an update on the actual delivery date and my Octavia Scout lease was due to end on 15 March. The new vehicle is a factory order with the following options: Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist, Drive Mode Selection and Metallic paint (Moon White).

The guy e-mailed me this response:

"Hi Doug

Thanks for the email.  I was going to contact you this week with an update on your order, unfortunately there’s been a bit of a delay in production on this model due to WLTP (new stricter emissions regulations brought in on 1st September 2019)

Effectively VW Audi group had to re-engineer a significant number of their cars to meet the new emissions regulations and the Kodiaq was one of them, this meant they actually removed it from ordering and production.  They only released the new model for ordering in January, this has meant significant delays to existing orders, so unfortunately your car is not due to be built until the beginning of April.

I realise this is not the news you want to hear, I only just found out about it yesterday when I called our dealer for an update.  You’ll be able to extend your current contract until your new car arrives.  Just call Skoda Finance and explain the situation and give them your new order number.

The dealer we are using is not Border Skoda, Dumfries this time it’s Arbury Fleet in the Midlands.

Hopefully the lead time will come forward slightly, I’ll keep you updated.

Best regards

Callum"

I see that the SE Technology has been discontinued so can anybody make an intelligent guess as to (a) what model I'm likely to receive instead and (b) when I'm likely to take delivery? Basically, I'm not overly bothered but I would really like it if the new model had full LED headlights. I'm somewhat confused.

Regarding the delay, VW Financial Services extended my current personal lease contract by two months to 15th May 2019 in a five minute telephone call, so full marks for making that easy for me.

Thanks in anticipation.

I wonder how this works when you're coming from another lease company. That sort of delay could really leave you in a fix if a third party lease company couldn't or wouldn't extend your contract. It's a problem I may face at the end of the year...

Hi Doug,

Ask Callum for your order number. If as he says, your order is now placed then this order number should be easy for him to share with you.

Once you have the order number, get hold of Skoda UK customer services using their 'chat now' function and quote them the order number.

They should be able to provide you with a confirmed build week (if your order has been allocated one yet), but also some clear direction on whether they're still building these discontinued models.

I'm pretty sure the date in this thread is the cut off for ordering, not building, so as long as your order has been placed (and importantly 'confirmed' / accepted by the factory) then you'll get the car as ordered.

Unfortunately, the SE Technology gets the regular halogen headlights, not the LED's.

I have an order number (I edited it out of the e-mail I quoted) , so I’ll give that a try and report back.

Part of me is hoping I get an SE L which does have full LED headlights rather than an SE but given the earlier comments about some of the 5 seat variants of these models being discontinued, I’m not sure.

Many thanks silver1011.

Hi, you're through to Joel at ŠKODA UK. I will be assisting you today. 18:06

Joel
I would be more than happy to help answer your order query today.
We are looking for ways to improve the service so, just while I get the update for you, would you mind
answering a couple of multiple choice questions? 18:07

Doug
No problem. 18:07

Joel
Thank you. Here's the first question.
Have you recently spoken to your selling Retailer?
a) No
b) Yes - In the last 3 days.
c) Yes - In the last 7 days.
d) Yes - In the last 2 weeks. 18:07

Doug
(a) No. I've ordered the car through a leasing agent. 18:07

Joel

Thank you. Here is the final question.

What prompted you to contact Live Chat?
a) My Retailer has not updated me.
b) I was just curious.
c) My Retailer directed me to contact Customer Services or Live Chat.
d) I wanted to double check the information my Retailer has provided. 18:09
Doug

(a) My retailer has not updated me. 18:09

Joel
Thanks for answering those questions for me, Doug. I've just checked your order for you and you
currently have an unconfirmed build week of week 13, this is the week commencing 25th of March. The
vehicle you have ordered and will receive is the KODIAQ SE Technology. 18:12

Joel
Please give me a few moments while I just investigate your order further. 18:13

Doug
O.k., thanks for that. So this will be a 2018 spec vehicle then? 18:13

Joel
I would need to speak to our Technical department in order to confirm which model of the KODIAQ you
will be receiving. Have you been told before what vehicle model trim level it will be? 18:14

Doug
My order form states "Skoda Kodiaq SUV 4wd 2.0 TDi 150 SE Technology 5Dr DSG [Start Stop]
[5Seat]" but this model has been discontinued, hence my confusion. 18:15

Joel
I'm sorry for any confusion, did your Retailer notify you of any changes? 18:16

Doug
No, sorry. I'm not dealing with a retailer, I ordered the vehicle through a leasing agent. It will be supplied
by Arbury Fleet in the Midlands, not a Skoda franchised dealer. 18:17

Joel
I see, sorry for any inconvenience, Doug. If you like, I can email you tomorrow once I've contacted the
Technical Department as they are currently closed. 18:18

Doug
Yes, that's o.k., thanks. My e-mail address is **********@hotmail.com 18:18

Joel
Brilliant, thanks for sending that through. I'll email you tomorrow once I've contacted the Technical
Department about this. 18:19

Joel
Is there anything else that I can assist you with? 18:19

Doug
O.k., thanks. Bye for now. 18:19

Joel
You’re welcome, it was my pleasure. After this chat has ended you will be presented with the option to
score my service provided to you today. Have a lovely day. Should you wish to contact us in the future,
please use ŠKODA Live Chat again, call us on 0333 003 7504 or email us at

I don't know how it works on your contract but generally, the leasing company only provide the vehicle. My lease hire is with VWFS so I just have to deal with VWFS. I don't see why any company wouldn't extend your contract. It only takes minutes to sort out and I don't suppose it matters to them. In fact, surely it's the easier option because they're continuing to earn revenue from it rather than having to take the car back then launch into the disposal logistics, i.e. pass to franchised dealer stock or national auction?

In my case, the vehicle was supplied by a Skoda franchised dealer so they'd be getting a car back for stock a little bit later than they originally anticipated. In the case of a larger fleet management company, I'd imagine that they'd just punt the returning stock out to the nearest large car auction.

Er, yes, it would appear so!

At least I got a build week (unconfirmed).

Yes, I'd be surprised if they wouldn't extend too, but it does make nervous. My current Superb is leased through Lex, but the Kodiaq I plan to move to will be leased directly through VWFS...

I understand. I hope that you don't encounter any issues to taint your Skoda ownership experience.

Thinking further about it, I presume that the franchised dealers arrange their leasing finance through VWFS by default (likely a mandatory requirement placed on them by VAG) but I suppose that there's no particular reason why a larger leasing company would do that.  They could arrange finance with any finance house they choose. I guess I'll find out in a few months.

I must say that I was a little bit surprised to find that my current Octavia was supplied by a franchised dealer in 2016 rather than a national leasing company. Border Motor Group is a fairly sizeable entity in Cumbria and the south of Scotland region but I guess that I was unaware that franchised dealers get involved in personal and business leasing. I thought they just offered PCP contracts and finance for a personal loan.

Before I ordered the Octavia for March 2016 delivery, the last times I visited franchised dealers were in 2005 (Toyota) and 2015 (Honda). In 2005 I bought a brand new Corolla part trade in, part personal loan and in 2015 I bought a MY2011 Honda Jazz cash sale so I'm a bit out of touch with purchasing options that franchised dealers offer.

I'm not entirely sure Joel was really there for the first part of the conversation

I suppose that stopping 5 seat Edition means that second hand value of my car bought new last summer will hold up just that little bit more.  Just theory for me; I intend to keep it for 10 years with my low annual mileage.

The irony is I was torn between a 5 door Kodiaq or the Karoq SEL I ended up buying the wife. I didn't consider the 7 seater for one second as why would I spend £1,000 more to carry extra weight that I would never use (zero kids).

wrong word

See update from Joel (wonder if he's any relation to Freddie Mercury, née Bulsara?), although I'm not completely sure what the mangled syntax "it falls in line with the production line that was promised to be the same model as the one that was ordered, rather than have the model changed" means other than they can accommodate the previous model's specification on the 2019 production run, presumably using up existing stocks of 2018 alloy wheel designs, halogen headlamp units, etc. :smirk:

Dear Mr Short

Thank you for your recent contact to ŠKODA UK, regarding your concerns with your vehicle order. Please accept my apologies for the delay in my response.

With regards to your vehicle order, I have looked into your enquiry to see which model you will receive with your order. I can confirm that you will receive the vehicle you had originally ordered, which is the KODIAQ SE Technology, 5 seats.

This is because it falls in line with the production line that was promised to be the same model as the one that was ordered, rather than have the model changed.

I hope that this information proves helpful. For any further concerns, it is quickest to contact our LiveChat Team over on the following link: http://www.skoda.co.uk/about-us/contact-us/

Thank you for your contact with ŠKODA UK.

Kind regards

  • 1 month later...

I received an update from Hamza on the Škoda online chat this afternoon.

To recap, I was advised that my car was built on 25 March. Today I learned that it arrived at the port of exit on 12th April.

I am advised that shipping to the U.K. takes around 2 to 4 days then it will be a further week to unload the ship at the U.K. port of entry. The supplying dealer (in this case Arbury Fleet in the West Midlands unless there is a Škoda franchised dealer in the supply chain too) needs to arrange transport.

None of this really assists me in deciding whether I will receive the new car before the two month ad hoc personal lease extension expires on 15th May or whether I will need to extend the lease again.

Doug

My guess is you will get it... but it will be close..
