Individual Mode In Drive Select Not Working Correctly!??

Featured Replies

So i have tried to use the individual setting in the drive mode menu, as i like the performance of sport mode (obviously) but i dont like the loud artificial exhaust sound or the heavy steering. So i have the Individual setting set to:

Steering: Normal

Air Con: Eco

Exhaust: Normal

Engine: Sport

But for some reason the engine doesn't appear to be in sport mode, if doesn't pull away as rapidly or rev as high as when i have it in normal Sport mode!

Any ideas why this is?

Do you have a manual or DSG?

If it’s manual, then I’m not sure how much you’ll notice tbh, the throttle should be more reactive but that’s it I think?

if it’s DSG, then you will see the gear indicator prefixes the gear number with S rather than D, so it will rev higher, hold the gears for longer and be much more aggressive particularly when changing down as you apply the brakes. If you’re  just using Individual mode for sport gearbox setting, then it will be quicker to move the selector back to the arrow position to switch to sport mode.

Its DSG, so it only changes the gearbox and not the power of the engine then, when in individual mode with the Engine setting set to 'sport'?

Is this problem after start-up?

To protect a cold engine, the car will not start with the DSG in sport mode. You'll need to reselect the mode you want to get Sport mode for the DSG or simply, pull back on the gear selector after putting it in D

Sadly not, no. It’s not a magic boost button unfortunately. I mean you might be able to make more use of the available power you have when putting the gearbox into sport but that’s about it!

Hahaha, my 5 year old and 3 year old boys drive with me and they scream from the back.... "Daddy hit the TURBO button"

Another one I'd noticed too. I'm now just leaving the car in normal and using the D/S selector on the stick as needed. I'd still like to be able to have a halfway house mode between D and S with DSG but it's just my personal preference living with it as my car has to stay standard. At lower revs sport mode is way better and responsive but once moving and cruising drive is fine.

I know it doesn't really "do much" but when putting my last 1.4 TSI into "sport" mode, it certainly made a huge difference. In normal/eco, it would happily accelerate, but you obviously had to push the magic button a little more.

Pop it into sport mode and the accelerator was so sensitive, it made the car feel 100x different in performance.

Similar experience from my 1.0 TSI, when in Sport/Tip mode (I have a Racechip taking it to 150bhp/260lbft) - it shifts.

Flick the gear selector over for M paddles & the idle revs are lower at stand still.

This is my next item to master full manual mode for DSG. I'll be working on this one going forwards :)

You can use the gear selector to change gears also when in M, very helpful when you can't find the paddles due to having an arm full of opposite lock !!!!!

Get you with your flashy flappy paddles and what not :envy:

Joking aside, the only thing I keep screwing up (asides from accidentally leaving it in D when putting the handbrake on) is which direction to push the selector when trying to go up/down. Flooring it in 3rd and then putting it into 2nd, isn't fun.

I'm with you on that one, forward to change up is counterintuitive

VAG do it the wrong way round.

BMW and Ford do it correctly, pull towards you to change up and push away from you to change down.  Like nearly all motorsport installations as it's more intuitive.

Is the shift direction something changeable in a remap? One of the few things I dislike about the DSG is the whole 'forward to shift up' thing.

100% agree - when you're braking hard into a corner and want to change down you SHOULD be able to do it by pushing forward on the shifter NOT pulling back against the deceleration forces.

Wonder if theres a simple way to swap it around

I think it's more of a cost cutting or engineering oversight issue; rather than an intentional cold start protection.

If you leave you car in eco mode when you start it again the transmission will be in D.

There used to be an adapter box you could buy that would swap the wiring from the lever to the ECU.

Not seen them about for a while though.
