Service costs - 35000 miles?

Featured Replies

Looking for a bit of guidance on what i should be paying for a 35,000 mile service, which is due in the next 10 days.

190 Diesel DSG.

Thanks in advance.

Are you going to Hendry's?

Ask them what they are doing and charging.  Avoid Sir Arnolds or Park's.

How old is the car?

What Servicing has it had.    Fixed Servicing at 9,400 miles / 372 days, or Variable 18,000 - 20,000 / 24 months.?

When was the last Service?

So as well as the Engine, Oil & Filter,

@ 40,000 miles the DSG is due an Oil Change you might want that now.

Haldex Service is @ 30,000 miles / 3 Years.

Brake Fluid Change is @ 3 years.

The car is a 16 plate registered July 2016.  I bought it as an ex demo in Jan 17, with 700 miles on the clock.  It has been on the variable service and was last serviced around this time last year (I do just less than 18,000 miles per year).  Currently on just over 35,500 miles.

Yes I will get the DSG oil change done now.  What is the Haldex service?

I will be getting a quote from Henrys and a local independent Skoda / Audi/ VW service place.  Will avoid AC and Parks!

Steering towards Henrys because I want to them to check a sticky starter button (seems to be an issue going by this forum) which would be a warranty thing, so as my warranty expires in few months this would be the time to get it checked.

Ask Henry's about the Haldex oil filter change as well, not a stated service item but one that can be a problem. Only mentioning it as some garages know and can change it and some do not know or say they "know nothing".

Haldex is just for the cars with AWD.   But with £69 job from Main Dealers check that these Factory Trained Technicians know their stuff, they should....

So was it put on Fixed Servicing last year?    The Pollen filter should have been done last year.

Don't pay more than these prices,

maybe pay less and just get what needs doing done.   Air Filter needs changed i would thing.

http://skoda.co.uk/owners/servicing-maintenance-fixed-price

DSG Oil Change £169, that is with or without filter, so as above check what is needed.

It's on variable service, just coincidental that its a year ago due to my mileage I suppose.

I think the pollen filter was done last time but will check.

Car is front wheel drive so wont need the Haldex?

Thanks again for the help!

I've got a couple of quotes, to include full service and DSG oil change.

Henrys Skoda Dealer £450

Skoda approved independent  £442

Seem fair?

Also - I've noticed by rear discs are shot to hell - I've seen a few threads on here and will ask if warranty covers this but i doubt it.   This this may need done too.      :@

How much am i looking at to replace rear discs and pads while in?

Edited by Mickey43

My rear discs and pads cost me £313.07 when I had them done last July - but I also had a water damaged window switch replaced as well.  I'll see if I can grab the work sheet when I'm home and let you have the proper price.

I'm also interested in servicing costs, so am watching this closely - although according to the car mine isn't due, I've only had her 8 months and I'd like to get her in (DSG and Haldex as well as mine is a 4x4).  I've come from a Vauxhall, so getting a Skoda serviced is new territory for me!

Between the service and the discs/pads, this is going to be a hefty bill for me - may have to spread the cost and delay the pads and discs to next month.  Ouch!   :dull:

Thread resurrection time.

My Superb 1.4Tsi is due a 3 year service in May.  On fixed servicing and will be near enough 30k miles by then. So looking at the website it will be

Inspection service £185, Extended scope £60, air and pollen filters £80, spark plugs £105, brake fluid, £65. So £495  plus an MOT.

First two free services were done at Henrys North. So happy to go back - but is there any chance they will offer a discount if asked to quote in advance? Also is it worth trying Henrys South or will it be a uniform company policy.   Lastly - any suggestions for VW/Skoda independents to get quotes from.   If the saving from an indy was £50 quid or so I'd stick with Skoda but bigger difference maybe go indy. Anywhere Glasgow City or northwest/East Dunbartonshire areas.

I

Last year some time I got a quote for a service from the VW Indy in Duntocher for a service.

Can't remember the extent of the service, but the price was around £210.

I checked with Henry's North and the price was around £220 so I just stuck with them.

Burnside Motors, next door to the VW guy in Duntocher, where I've been getting MOTs for 35 years told me at last MOT in December that they are VAG specialists now too, although I haven't used them for service work.

Edit to add - if you do find a good indy in the NW Glasgow area, I would be really glad if you would post the details here.

Addition

If car is approaching 3 years, it is sensible to get any warranty work done, or minor niggles looked at

Remember to get the MOT done before it and warranty expires (MOT will give you full year from expiry date, not from test date, provided it is done during last month of validity)

Check the tyres, if tread depths are different front and back, consider getting them swapped around (usually about £20, or free if wheels off for something else like brake pads).  If you don’t own a tyre tread gauge, then do rough check using rim of 2p coin, or a two colour £1coin to compare tyres

Ask what pressure is in spare wheel, it forces garage to ensure it is pumped up and usable

Thanks for comments. Tyres are OK. Fronts replaced this year.   Plan to replaced rears (now on front) this autumn. I run all seasons and they will  be down to 3mm or so by then judging by how the original fronts wore. The OE tyres were an option of Conti All Seasons. Decent performance in cold, wet, and snow  but poor life compared to Goodyear Vectors I had on my previous Octavia. Changed the fronts at 22K  Spare is OK.

Pads and discs are fine.  Everything else seems OK.  Only issue I have had was a brake rattle  fixed under warranty. Other than that really happy with the car.  Just stings a bit paying £495 for a couple of hours labour and £100 or so of parts.

Last time I got a quote for a job from the Indy in Duntocher they were £20 quid cheaper the Henrys. I went with Henrys. But I'll get quotes nearer the time.

The MOT can be done anywhere. I used our local Council facility, and they cost just £40.

If it were me, I'd get the oil&filter, and the brake fluid done by a vat garage, and then do the rest myself.

Air and pollen filters have to be easy enough to fit youself, save a fortune. Same too with the plugs.

Drove 4 miles in January to get the wife's Karoq first MOT (29,000 miles exactly) at Kwik Fit who charged £39 and the original air and pollen filter are still in the car as the onboard computer says the second free Skoda service is due in August at 44 months from registration. Will get the brake fluid changed at this time and all front/rear wiper blades replaced at Halfords in January for £49. Having everything done at a Main Dealer will always cost more.

Spark plugs are not necessary on a modern petrol until 50,000 miles or 5 years IMHO.

Yeah, I've used Kwik Fit for mots before. I'm sure they'd try it on a bit with an older car, but with a newish motor you'll be fine.

Main dealers are very expensive, and in my experience, no better for the extra expense.

Surely that is a diy job. Takes 2 minutes and will save money. I replaced all 3 blades on my Astra for £7.33 from Ebay seller All Car Parts Limited.

On fixed servicing regime, 1.4tsi, 30,000 mile/3 yr service is simply an oil/filter change plus a brake fluid change. An inspection (tick box sheet) is done as standard which also includes a battery check.

Spark plugs and air filter are not required until 40,000 miles/4 years. Pollen filter is changed every 20,000miles/2years so yours should have been done last year and is not due until next.

So you should be paying only for an oil service, brake fluid change and MOT at most.

I have just had a 3yr/30,000 mile service plus an mot on my 1.4tsi superb. It was all done in a little over an hour, no idea how they managed that considering that the MOT should take 1 hour by itself.  Supposedly a road test was also done. I did straight away get a video showing/explaning the under car inspection and what was checked.

Be prepared for "some corrosion on inner face of rear discs" advisory and a subsequent upsell attempt. Can probably be cleaned up with some enthusiastic braking or "emergency braking using epb" if you have the nerves to try that. (See manual for detail of how to do that). Your decision.

Superb rear discs are renowned for corrosion issues, check out the other threads on that subject.

It was -4C and they were frozen to the blades and I had no de-icer and the front rubber had ripped so had no choice as MOT was in 30 minutes time. Yes I have replaced them before. These were more expensive Bosch Aero Twin which are quieter than the factory wiper blades.

Fair enough! There are lots of times when you just need to get a job done. Been there before years ago.

For the record, I couldn't believe I could get 3 blades for £7.33, including delivery. They're not posh branded blades, but will probably outlast the car, and in fairness are actualy decent quality for £2.44 ea. :)

Our local Halfords always seems to have lots of people using the 'WeFit' service. Cheaper and easier to access than main dealer.

Here's the 3yr/30,000 mile Maintenance List generated for my car last week by Skoda's ELSA computer system

I also got 3 other sheets detailing the free complementary health check that comes with each service. Things like battery, tyres, fluids, wipers brake condition, leaks, body damage etc.

Good shout. And do the Air/pollen filters yourself.

I ordered the best quality available from www.carparts4less.co.uk : Mann Air Filter and Bosch Activated Carbon with Anti-Fungal Pollen Filter, and it cost me around £30.

Exactly what I got too. Saved a decent amount over letting a garage or dealer to do it.
