Fuel Flap - water ingress

Featured Replies

I bought the karoq in  November 2018, and the build quality generally seems good.

However a large amount of water gathers behind the fuel filler flap, even after a light shower.

This causes a problem when it freezes, making it difficult to open, and freezing the ice scraper to its holder - Not much use!

Has anyone else noticed this - or is my gap too large or missing a seal?

Don't know if you’ve noticed but there is a small drain hole within the recess for the filler cap. We have a Q3 as well as the Karoq, and although the Q3 is worse, both occasionally get bunged up with dust etc, leaving quite an amount of standing water inside. I use a small bit of plastic tubing to blow the drain tube clear, then force water through the drain tube to flush it out. Might be worth a try?

Which one you prefer the q3 or Karoq ☺️

warm water to defrost' My driver door handle and door froze could not open warm water solved the problem. There is no seal on the filler door just water froze around filler flap

I've not had the water gathering problem, or freezing of the filler flap, but HAVE noticed the flap is reluctant to open on occasion, irrespective of the weather / temperature. I've tried copious amounts of WD40 at all the relevant points of contact / movement but with little improvement. I notice the small black plastic securing lug inside twists to lock - mine does but seems reluctant to do so at times. Any ideas for a solution ? I had a Mercedes 190e many years ago, which had an emergency fuel filler flap release for such occasions, a very simple but effective solution - I wish the Karoq had one !

Very similar really, both are 2ltr diesels, although mine is a DSG, whereas wife's in a manual. If the Q3 had the bells, whistles & tech that the Karoq has it'd have cost a fortune. Just shows what great value Skoda's are nowadays - Skoda have come on in leaps & bounds - Audi, Merc, BMW etc although certainly not resting on their laurels, charge a small fortune for the type of tech my Karoq has.  Very pleased so far.

Believe me, I've been tempted !!  I now use skoda1982's technique,  a short hard tap to spring it open, the 3rd attempt seems to work !

Thanks for that. Mine is clear, checked the old golf and that was blocked!

I think the fold in the karoq bodywork directs more water inside, and whilst the plastic and paintwork is new the droplets stick around, especially in the ice scraper holder - I'll keep it inside the car for now.

Obviously very difficult in the 21 century for the worlds 2nd biggest car company to design a HOLE to allow fluids to drain away!

First time I fuelled I ended up getting the handbook out as it wouldn't open and I spent 10 minutes looking for the release button :D gave it a bit of a thump and we were in business  still sticks every so often.
