Piggy back fuse !

Featured Replies

I want to install an amplifier in a 2019 Skoda Superb SE that has no Canton system. I have read that fuse 27 in the fuse box is for "music amplifier". Presumably this would be used for the Canton system, and as such I should expect it to be left empty in my car?

I there any reason why I should not using something like this to tap into power from the fuse box for an amplifier rather than routing a cable to the battery?

I could then plug this directly into the amplifier and the earth it to the body of the car the create a circuit.

Having not done anything like this before, I would welcome any comments and suggestions!

That is the exact cable I've used for years to power my dashcam. I piggybacked into the rear wiper fuse on mine, but you could use any that is 'ignition live'

Sounds good! Does it just come on when the ignition is switched on? Do you have a rear wiper? If not, was the fuse slot live?

It sounds like a good option to piggy back an active sub from the rear wiper as if it only comes on when the ignition is on, if I am just sitting in the car with the engine off I don't necessarily want to use the sub.

Correct, only on when the ignition is on. Estate so I had a rear wiper.

Anything that is ignition fed will only come on with the ignition. Easiest way to check is to use a multimeter.  If it shows live with ignition off you know its a constant live and vice versa an ignition fed circuit will only show voltage when ignition is on.

Where do you pick up the signal for the sub? Is there a pre out on the head unit, or is there a line level in the boot already?

The amp will have rca pre outs and a remote on wire.

My plan is to connect this adapter to the stock headunit (in glove box):

From where I can link this amp with its included wiring kit:

https://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/car-amps-subs/vibe-optisound-micro-4-channel-amp

That amp has a remote out and pre rca outs, which I'll connect to an active underseat sub and piggyback off the fuse box for the power:

https://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/car-amps-subs/vibe-optisound-auto-8-active-underseat-subwoofer-enclosure

The amp also has a fixed crossover at 80hz, so it will take the lower frequencies away from the car speakers (so that they're not so strained) for the sub to handle.

I hope I'm taking the right approach!

Hi, sorry to revive such an old topic. Which fuse should I use for the yellow power cable?

Many thanks!
